Driving in New york: Spotlight Margo

LA Based Margo is a complete original. It is hard to compare her to anyone in the present day save Prince. Her style is very radical and she rocks what I’ll call a “Sexy Disco Hipster vibe”.

She uses this keen sense of style to produce engaging videos and theatrical performances. Margo has all the spunk of Cyndy Lauper, but with an aggressive edge. She blends European techno beats with guitar riffs. Her punky lyrics fit in perfect with such a sound.

L.A. based Margo gives me yet another reason to road trip it out west.

Here are two very rad songs. Walking in L.A. drives hard like a Pat Bennatar track and “Cold as Ice” is very funky.

Margo - Walking in LA

Margo - Cold as Ice

And how about a slick video!

Das Roots

Terry Richardson's work for the Pirelli spring calendar in 2010. Terry has certainly pushed the envelope in photography, and received much acclaim for his work for American Apparel. Here is one of the more PG shots from the Italian tire companies calendar. Viva la Italia.

I have a great deal of respect for The Roots. They have maintained relevancy for more than a few decades, and they can put on just as good of a rock show as they do hip hop. I have seen them twice in concert, and have been blown away each time.

Recently the Roots teamed up with ex McKinsey consultant (fact of the day) John Legend. Legend's soulful voice combined with The Roots' upbeat tempos provides for a very engaging body of work.

Here is a cover one the most acclaimed bands of the year Arcade Fire. Listen to it the whole way through for the instrumental ending.

The Roots Featuring John Legend - Wake Up (Arcade Fire Cover)

This next song has a hard rock edge similar to what the Black Keys were able to produce when they teamed up with several hip hop artists for Blac Rocc.

The Roots - How I got Over ft. Dice Raw

Enjoy and have a great week.

TANTALIZE

CAREER: ACTRESS
STATE: NEW YORK
FAVORITE FOOD: NUMBER TWO WITH SPECIAL SAUCE

This first track is some great aussie type indie-electro. As long as you actually don't live under a rock and like Cut Copy, then, you will dig this shit like a dog burying a bone.

Strange Talk - Climbing Walls

On deck we have some catchy untz to get you through your midweek. Don't worry, it's not your speakers fading, it's the song. This tune is Swedish gold.

Loredana - Rain Rain (Endiamonds Remix)

I saw this jam on vacay vitamins while researching the Ultra Music fest controversy. I don't even know what the hell the woman is saying. She literally might be rambling about Herpes. Either way, I like this song.

Vex Music - Electro Skank

This next song is a little offbeat. The Good Natured score with "Be My Animal." It feels like indie, pop, and reggaeton all rolled into one. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

The Good Natured - Be My Animal

It's been what seems like forever since I've heard a Metric remix worth posting. Finally, Glasnost has given me a much needed dose of some synthed-up Emily Haines. If you ever have a chance to see Metric live please go, you won't be disappointed.

Metric - Gold Guns Girls (Glasnost Remix)

BONUS:

For newbies unfamiliar with Inna check out some videos on youtube. She's super hot. If you like Stereo Love then this is right up your alley.

Inna - Deja Vu

I Am Thankful for Old Friends, Fried Turkey, Synthesizers, and Kanye West

Title says it all. This past Thanksgiving weekend was one of the best yet. Not only did my family and I whip up a food network worthy feast (see fried turkey above), but I got to spend the holiday with Master of the Untziverse, Mr. Smooth, and our 50 or so other best friends in our favorite place in the world. These tracks were a huge part of our evening successes and failures, so please listen carefully.

Finally. Awesome new Cut Copy. There was a wonderful moment at about 3:45 am on Wednesday night when Mr. Smooth was standing next to the radio from which this song was playing. Sobriety in question, he swayed and proclaimed with amazement, "This is fuckin' great." When I told him it was Cut Copy, he looked at me as if joy washed over him, in an awesome wave.

I love Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and this remix totally cuts any of their weirdness (for better or for worse) and makes it an anthem. It takes a little over a minute for the song to really get going, but be patient and let your head nod. Apologies, was unable to upload this one to fileden, so mediafire it is.

This song is so damn sexy. It is a perfect slow jam for people to let their groove flow. Also, works well if you have eaten too much turkey and can't move no good.

This song may have been the biggest hit of the weekend. I owe full credit on this one to a person that means a lot to me. For now, we'll call her T. I am a huge Gucci Mane fan and Brenton Duvall just stomps this remix, turning it to an instant latenight classic. You feel as though you've heard it 1,000 times on your first listen, but in the best way possible. Same deal here with fileden, so you'll have to download through mediafire. TRUST ME, it's worth the download.

Kanye's new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy had a huge impact on the weekend. Unfortunately, we can't post free Kanye songs because he will get super mad and maybe get all dark and twisted on us. That being said, the album is freakin' amazing and so is his 35 minute long, MJ'esque super music video, entitled "Runaway". I am personally obsessed with this video and am thankful that Kanye made it. I hope you like it too.

Hip - Hop – O – Potamus

See! Big corporations aren't that bad. Coke a Cola found something creative to do with all of the left over crates shipped to the world cup. My Grandmother always said something beautiful can come from something ordinary.

I have gotten a few “that song is so sick” comments about the Jay Z remix of “Hello Brooklyn” i posted. If you have yet to scope out that radical tune see the link above.

In response to this wonderful outpouring of emotion I thought I would hit you with a few more hip-hop remixes. There is no doubt that the Untz group loves great lyricists and groovy beats, and these three remixes should make your day.

You’ll notice that two of these tracks are remixed by the DJ set Vodka and Milk. Besides reminding me of my Grandaddy’s breakfast drink, their style is airy and energetic.

Jay Z and JD - Money ain't a thang (vodka and milk remix)

Tupac - Do it for love (Vodka and Milk Remix)

Brenton Duvall - (Tupac and Gary Jules) - Against a Mad World

Enjoy these jams and have a great holiday.

Failed Novelist

I thought the Whitest Boy alive was on their on in the realm of electro funk, but the group Failed Novelist has ventured into their territory with a few choice singles. Their sound has a glossy 70s feel that fits well for those after hours parties where you lose all the cares in the world.

Pay close attention to their subtle use of synthesizers and clean guitar riffs.

I’ll be keeping tabs on more of their stuff to come, but for now check out these two very fine songs.

Failed Novelist – Love Like a Knife

Failed Novelist – Tangled

Bonus

I missed out on Fool’s Gold in Central Park this summer, but I am hoping to see them live some time soon. This Memory Tapes remix of Nadine has three very separate movements. It is quite an excellent listen.

Have a good one homies,

Beirut Steps Out

As the weather cuts to a chill, I have been delving into the Santa Fe based group Beirut. Their signature sound has sort of traditional eastern European flair to it. They showcase big horns and produce some indie polka typed jams.
They released a double EP in 2009, which is a large departure from their original style. The EP is inspired by lead singer Zach Condon’s trips to Oaxaca, Mexico and various parts of Europe.
The second EP of the two named Holland is an experiment with electro pop. The tracks feature dreamy synthesizers, horns, and David Byrne like lyrics.
It is so different from their typical sound; I thought I would share two of the better licks.

And the more traditional but still great
Enjoy!

Gimme That Beat

It's wine season. The fall parties are just about to start bumping with Halloween, various homecomings and other boozy adventures so it's time for some music with a little oomph behind it. Get your dancin' shoes, girl, cause we gonna boogie. Oh, and this week will feature a drink pairing for each song, so please stock your bar.

In Italy, locals tend to start off with an Appertivo, a light, yet boozy cocktail to allow one's hunger for food, love, life and more booze to grow with ease. Start your night off with a Spritz and this tasty track from Maximum Balloon featuring the sultry yet punch-you-in-the-face vocals of Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Spritz

2 oz. Prosecco
1.5 oz. Aperol
Splash of soda water

In a rocks or wine glass, over ice, pour the Prosecco, followed by the club soda and finally the Aperol. Garnish with an orange slice.

Next, it's time for the donkey punch. That one thing that will kick you in your ass and rocket your night into oblivion. The drink is the Sbagliato and the song is this powerful, raw and hardcore song from Kanye West and Bon Iver (yes, that Bon Iver, from Wisconsin...not to mention a very intense sample of Gil Scott Heron's Comment #1). These should get your blood pumping.

Kanye West (feat. Bon Iver) - Lost In the World (link removed by request)

Sbagliato (also known as the Boulevardier)

1.5 oz. Bourbon
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Sweet vermouth

Mix all three ingredients over ice in a rocks glass, garnish with an orange slice, and melt. This delight was introduced to me by my buddy Josh Rich who spent some time living in Bologna, where this drink is very popular. Sweet, bitter and boozy, these are dangerous.

Now the party has started and its time to get those ladies dancing. If said ladies happen to be adorning pearl earrings, Lily Pulitzer dresses and drinking PG Rocks, then they will most likely love this song. Sampling the WASP-Indie group, Tennis, G-Eazy spits some hilarious lyrics describing a relationship with a little preppy hunny.

PG Rocks

Pinot Grigio
Ice

Fill a highball tumbler to the brim with ice. Then top with Pinot Grigio. It's not a drink, it's a lifestyle.

Now that everyone is well lubricated, a slow jam is in order. Groove your body to this sexy cover of Dirty Projectors' "Stillness is the Move", performed by Solange, the younger sister of Beyonce Knowles. Kick back and warm up to this jam with a with a fall favorite of mine that I like to call Apple Crisp.

Apple Crisp

3 oz. Bourbon
1.5 oz. Apple Cider
Ground Nutmeg
Cinnamon Stick

Pour bourbon and cider in a low ball glass full of ice. Stir with a cinnamon stick and grind fresh nutmeg on top. Fall in a glass.

A classic always brings the house down in the wee hours of the morning. This song has been one of my favorites ever since I first heard when I was 11. It is infectious and people can't resist singing every word. Throw back a classic beverage to match and you're feelin' fine.

Fire Proof

I had the fortune to check out a very slick music venue in Brooklyn last night. Fireproof in Bushwick plays host to a range of up and coming artists from all walks of creativity. They have an outdoor space for performances and an indoor spot for art displays and more intimate shows. I was able to catch up with my friends from Red Wire Black Wire as they finished up their CMJ power tour of half a dozen shows in New York over the span of a few days.

While I was jamming out with them I got to see several new bands including Neighbors. They have a huge group and covered one of my favorite Talking Heads songs. They are definitively a big party while on stage, and I certainly appreciated this very much. They are worth a listen and I thought I would kick you to their myspace page to check it out.

Neighbors

After hitting it pretty hard, I needed some slick tunes to mellow out with. Vetiver is an American group who has a laid back and quirky style. Their music seems strongly influenced by Elvis Costello. Take a listen and I am sure you will be pleased! Check out the Neighbors remix for a good time.

Like Butta!

A lovely photo of Daisy Lowe from Paradis magazine. In other news these three songs are just so fresh and so clean I thought I would toss them into a post together. Aeroplane is hitting it hard with strong remixes. This version of Gypsy and the Cat's song "The Piper's" is both energetic and poppy. Gypsy and The Cat are a London based duo who originally started kicking out indie rock songs in Australia. The two are coming out with an album in early 2011 and released "The Piper's" as a teaser. There will be more of them to come.

Gypsy and the Cat - The Piper's (Aeroplane Remix)

Blackbird Blackbird is in the heart of the trance wave. There is certainly a heavy dose of psychedelic electro in their music and I am starting to get into them. This song Hawaii has a lot going on with it, but it all seems to fit together nicely.

Blackbird Blackbird – Hawaii

Bedouin Soundclash followed up their 2007 album Street Gospel Light with this year’s The Horizon. This jam has n advancing percussion beat similar to a typical Tanlines song. The song I rounded out with vocals by Coeur De Pirate and the result is one of the slickest songs I have heard in the recent past.

Have a good one!

Do the Mash Potato

Hip Hop has flooded back into my life and I couldn’t be happier. I picked up some great mash ups this week, and I have a lot of love for what the Hood Internet and The White panda have been up to. The rapping style of Jay Z is particularly great in mash-ups. Check out these three songs for a good time!

This mix of Jay Z, Lil Wayne and Marvin Gaye is about as slick as you can get. If you ever need to get jacked up about going to Brooklyn this is the perfect song.

Hello Brooklyn – Jay Z vs. Marvin Gaye ft. Lil Wayne

Here is a mix up of 99 problems with Phoenix’s Fences. Toss is some Don Diablo and you get a song that is surprisingly fresh.

Jay Z with Chromeo just makes you want to break dance. Check it out!

Grum

Spotlight – Grum

I am hooked on Grum - terrible name, but a great DJ. Grum is best known for his prowess as a remix artist and you should check out some of his past Untz Posts (Bam!) . I have recently gotten into his original work and have been very stoked with what I am hearing. Grum's original pieces are light, funky and very 80s. Check out some of these great tracks

Grum - Through The Night (Bit Funk Remix)

Jump Jump Dance Dance - Show me the Night (Grum Remix)

My KZ, UR BF - Everything Everything (Grum Remix)

These Links have been taken down by request. If you would like to listen and buy some of these great songs follow this link to Grum's myspace page - Grum On Myspace. I highly recommend checking him out.

Bonus - Owen Pallet

Owen Pallet is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist from Canada eh. He has been under my radar until very recently, but has worked heavily with both Grizzly Bear and Beiruit. His single material is a departure from those bands in a refreshing way. He constructs his pieces in a classical sense, but they remain more upbeat and complex instrumentally than that of Grizzly Bear. Check out this song of his.

Eyebrow Slowdown

I went and saw Wavves the other night at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Period. New Sentence. I missed the two opening acts which I almost regret in hindsight as the first opener, consisting of members of Woods and Vivian Girls- The Babies- rock that grungy drunk vibe hard in the excellent "Meet Me In The City." Regret is a bitch. Fuck it. Wavves ruled.

Wavves broke a few years back with their fuzzed out masterpiece, and lover's ode to being drunk stoned and broke-"No Hope Kids." In the midst of riding that first wave of buzz lead singer and project brainchild, Nathan Williams, had a public, drug related meltdown onstage. Nice. Moving on. In a fuck you to the critics, musicians, and fans that wrote him off as a spoiled bitch, Williams released the manically amazing "King of the Beach." Williams kept the early 90's punk scuzz and honest lyrics from his past album but cleaned it up a little by throwing richer electronic textures and beautiful doo-wop harmonies into the mix. Joined onstage by Jay Reatard's old backing band, Williams threw a raucous shit show the other night.

It was apparent how much Wavves love weed when before the first song the band had already launched into an explanation about a mystical land named Funktopia and passed a joint around onstage. I don't remember a lot after that because I ingested a few more beers and jameson and decided to stop being such a pussy and join the mosh pit. I do remember loving "King of the Beach" and being pissed that they didn't play "Baby Say Goodbye." The crowd was a great mix of hipsters and 18 year old skater punks, and it made for a glorious, energetic mosh that was just people pushing and hitting each other blindly with shit eating grins. This wasn't some Disturbed/Drowning Pool concert with a ton of shaved, neo-nazi Oxy addicts looking for blood, it was just stupid aggressive fun. I am bruised. I am better for it. I pushed some girls, girls if you are reading this, I'm not sorry. Because you pushed me back. Something tells me that my 6th grade self - the one that swore by Rancid, Op Ivy, and the Punk-O-Rama mix cds- would give a fucking sweet high five if he saw me in action. Anyways. Wavves ruled. Go see them. Get involved in the front. Here are some songs.

Also in totally different musical direction, Dave Sitek, the guitarist, producer, and virtuoso from TV on the Radio just released his electro side project - Maximum Balloon. You might remember this damn sexy video from the summer with Daisy Loewe and soundtracked by Maximum Balloon. The album has guest vocals from some very famous fellow New Yorkers, including- David Byrne, Karen O, Theophilus London, Little Dragon, and Tunde and Kip from TV on the Radio. The whole album is solid, but here are a couple of choice tracks.

Also Great: "Apartment Wrestling" "Communion" "Tiger"

Slow Yo Roll

So I found this stuff called Drank a few weeks ago. It's an extreme relaxation beverage, preaching the mantra of slowing one's roll, similar to a certain "syrup". I needless to say burst out in laughter and bought two 16 ounce cans. With all the heady, chillwavey, mellowed out tracks floating around these days, I wanted to dedicate a post to tunes that will definitely mellow your chi, bra.

How to Dress Well is one dude from Cologne, Germany that produces some seriously strange yet satisfying tracks. The level of bass is kind of ridiculous, but the music flows like Brady's new haircut. Here are two tracks that were released a few months ago. Listen for the Michael Jackson sample in the first jam, turn your bass down on the second and then go buy the new album "Love Remains", which was released today.

How to Dress Well - Ecstasy With Jojo

How to Dress Well - Take It On

I've been into Teen Daze for a few months now, but then I found Houses, who's music is on that same level. Then I found this track by both of them together and life was bueno. It starts slow and builds to a dirty breakdown.

Active Child has been a serious favorite of mine this month. His music sounds as if Bon Iver's mom had bought him a synth instead of an acoustic guitar. Here is a DOPE remix by him of Marina's Oh No!

BONUS:

My group of friends could not stop jamming on this 1992 throwback all Sunday. It would behoove you to put this on at your next social gathering.

Candidate for Song of The Year

Every year there are a handful of albums that blow me away. I fell hard for the Black Keys and Phoenix a few years back, and Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork has always been one of my favorites. A few days ago Chromeo released their new album Business Casual and it is rapidly growing on me.

Business Casual, like their others, has an 80s funk style reminiscent of Cameo, Zap and Roger, and some Prince. The album ventures into 80s pop more so than prior works, but also gains musical complexity. It has a light freshness similar to Hall and Oats or Billy Ocean.

The song “I Could Be Wrong” is Chromeo at their best. Dave 1 and P-Thugg teamed with Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend to make this masterpiece. It is one of funkiest and smoothest jams I have heard, and I put it on par with “Do it Roger” by Zap and Roger.

What really takes this song to the next level is the ripping saxophone solos. This song is the most potent way to start an instant dance party… anywhere (Apartments, Bodegas, Buses wherever).

I Could Be Wrong - Chromeo ft. Ezra Koenig

For those of you that missed it, here is the video to “Night by Night.” It is a highly entertaining dance bonanza with attractive women.

Have a great night kids!

DOME

NAME: DOME-PIECE
LOCATION: NEW YORK CITY
FAVORITE FOOD: NOODLE

It's so sexy, to be living in America. If you like 'The Knocks' and you like DOM, then you will totally dig this jam. Don't forget "Something I Can Dance To".

The Knocks - You Can Make It Better (DOM Remix)

Not your typical $masher jam, but I totally dig this indieband from Finland. While the song feels quite indie, the drums are unmistakeably punk. As I learned to play the drums in the late 90's and early 2000's era, it makes me think back to what I was listening to then. Awesome. Anyway, if you like this then check out the promo release of "Mexico" as well.

Satellite Stories - Kids Aren't Safe At the Metro

OOOOHHHH YUHH oooh oooh. woo woo woo. boom boom boom boom. done.

Gyptian - Hold Yuh (Major Lazor Remix)

Champagne for Everyone! Dirty tune, hot marina. The original is sick too. Sorry for my performance recently. Summer is over and I'm back in business. $MAAAAAASH.

Fade into Fall

The summer is fading into the Fall, and everything is starting to seem fresh and new again. I have selected some indie rock tunes as a change of pace to help you ease into Fall without a hint of a worry. There is still plenty of time to live all you can out of this summer, so go night swimming, laugh obnoxiously, and drink a Pina Colada.

The Walkmen, much like me, are batty enough to base themselves simultaneously in Philadelphia and New York. What makes them unique is their heavy use of vintage instruments (the upright piano in particular). This song is a killer!

The Walkmen – In the New Year

We have posted the Local Natives before and I highly recommend this song from Lazersaurus (Wordtronica). This version of eyes wide is heavy on the rock synthesizer, but rounds itself out with some slick hip hop rhymes.

Local Natives – Wide Eyes (Fools Gold Remix Ft. Aristotle pop a Bottle)

This mash up is as smooth as a menthol cigarette. It is a mix of the Nancy Sinatra classic “These Boots are made for Walking” and Bad Boy recording artist Janelle Mone. Janelle’s album “The ArchAndroid” traces its influences to both music and film in a way reminiscent of the flaming lips. ArchAndroid chronicles the myriad journeys of an android and samples styles ranging from classical to big band jazz, folk and hip hop.

Party Ben - This Tight Ropes Made for Walking – Nancy Sinatra vs. Janelle Mone

Actress Shannon Sossaman from “The Rules of Attraction” lent her vocals and drumming skills for Warpaint’s album “Exquisite Corpse.” The song builds freely and maintains a hauntingly fresh sound.

Warpaint – Elephants

This song is just a damn delight. Diego Garcia is a former member of the indie group Elefant. Check out his soulful track “You were never there”

Have great rest of the week,

A Very Untzological Birthday

I was sitting next to singer and guitar player Jack Penate (who beat me to 25 by about 10 months) when the clock struck 12 to usher in my 25th birthday. After a round from the others of “has your quarter life crisis set in yet”, Jack set a great tone for my 25th year. His outlook on 25 is the same as mine. 25, as he told me, is the time to get settled in, put away the negative and insignificant things in your life, and make your mark on the world. Not a bad thought from the rocker.

He wrote this song to that point.

Jack Penate – So Near

And while you are at it check out this other great tune of his

Jack Penate – Everything is New

I highly recommend buying his album punks, so get at it! - (itunes)

I had the fortune to be invited to sort of house warming party at Vampire Weekend key board player Rostam Bantmanjli’s place last night – Rad because I just posted his collaboration with Kid Cudi (All Summer). Rostam invited over a group of his friends from Julliard. We kicked around a few beers as they sight read classical music and tried out string quartet versions of indie pop songs. It was one of the cooler things I have been to in a while.

Here is a pretty killer clip from Conan of Vampire Weekend with the String Quartet I mentioned above.

Have a great night and best of luck in whatever this week holds for you,

JAVELIN // Dog Days

Ahh, the dog days of summer. They have taken their toll on me in a myriad of ways. Between working like a mule, traveling through the Rust Belt, and partying like a there’s no tomorrow, I am a little embarrassed to say that this post comes as my first in over a month. What I have lacked in quantity, however, will be picked up in the quality of this music right here.

I want to take my 10 million candle power striper fishing light and shine it right on Javelin, a raucous duo of from Brooklyn via Providence, RI (in my opinion, the most underrated city in the northeast). I saw them perform a rocking live show a few nights ago at Great Scott in Allston where they tinkered away at their mash of effects machines and synthesizers. If you are into funky, carefully mixed, big beat, party music, then this band is for you. Here are a couple tracks just so you can sample their deliciousness, but I would highly suggest you to pick up their fantastic new album No Mas and if you are in New York this weekend, go see them perform at the Soho Grand Hotel this Saturday.

Javelin - Vibrationz

Javelin - Oh! Centra

Buy their album on iTunes or Amazon

Here are a few additional tracks that I cannot stop listening to:

RAC is just crushing it these days. Here they find a way to take Ed Sharpe’s “Home” to an even more ethereal and powerful level than it already was. This is a great song to listen to with your best friends in the world.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home (RAC Remix)

I know Tweezy posted this a few weeks ago, but goddamn, this is one of the best songs I have heard in a while…so sexy!! not me!!!

Active Child - When Your Love Is Safe (Classixx Remix)

Listen to this tasty treat and move yo’ feet…

Dragonette - Easy (Fabian Remix)

I don’t usually like Passion Pit remixes, but this is more like a cover and Penguin Prison absolutely stomps it.

ALLYJANDRO

NAME: ALLY
LOCATION: UNKNOWN
FAVORITE SONG: What do All the People Know by the Monroes

Sorry to all of those of you who expected much over the past few weeks. The untz has felt the full weight of August heat. We have been on vacation so to speak, however, vacation wouldn't be right without fresh MUSIC. So, I bring you four jams to get you through hot lobster garbage and sandy towels.

This first jam is pretty explosive. It's reached several blogs and we'd be irresponsible not to post it as well. I am a fan.

Housse De Racket - Champions (Edwin Van Cleef Remix)

Brush your Grums because this bitch booms. Big Room, Small Car, Smaller Apartment... who cares. This is what you should be dancing to.

Groove Armade - History (Grum Remix)

I felt a little nostalgic with this one. The original is decent enough and let's face it 'Sky Ferreira's' cover of "Animal" is pretty sweet. You won't do it.

Sky Ferreira - One (WAWA Edit)

This is my inspiration for this week. It's not even close to new, however, it totally flew under the radar. This is something harder for those more experienced... This is aggressive Tiesto. Angry bass highlights this track coupled with unrelenting Tiesto persistence. Broaden your horizons and listen to some big boy music.

Tiesto - Fresh Fruit

A Dream within a Dream

It's been a low-key weekend as I prep for the last hard burn of summer. To help the Untz faithful in a similar state, I have a selected tracks that can help you slide into a mellow, but upbeat groove.

Bassnectar from Frisco (San Francisco) typically lay down heavy beats glossed over with a variety of electronic techniques. This song has a sort of dreamlike quality to it. The list of styles this group pulls from is endless.

Bassnectar – Magical World

We have posted Ellie Goulding a few times before, and I suggest you check out this track from Mr. Smooth. (More Ellie Goulding). This remix is of one of my favorites. It has some giddy up and features some interesting electronic additions. Ellie Goulding is currently on tour in the UK, and I am dieing to see her live if she comes stateside.

Ellie Goulding – Lights (Messed remix)

This is my favorite jam of the post. Tegan and Sarah are identical twins from Calgary, Canada (A very stellar place according to a lovely art dealer couple I met at the Russian Vodka Bar). They have been kicking out tracks since the 90s, and have not lost any of their electro pop relevancy. This remix by Toro y Moi is just about as good as it gets.

Tegan and Sarah - Alligator (Toro y Moi remix)

Final Jeopardy

Muddy Waters is a top ten badass. If you disagree - watch this live session of his. Still disagree… well change your mind.

Much Love,

Master Untz

Check out our boy Ghostwaves!

Perfected Sex Act: Aboriginal Sauce Pan

This week we have four fun songs to brighten up your week. Enjoy.

The first track in the set list is another RAC remix of Bloc Party frontman Kele's "Everything You Wanted". Great vocals highlight this track, however, RAC's signature synthesizer transforms this melodramatic tune into something much lighter. I definitely prefer this to the original. Check out the punks jump up and falke versions too.

Kele - Everything You Wanted (RAC Remix)

This track was a last minute submission from Hoodie Allen and produced by RJF that was just too good not to post. Hoodie hits the nail right on the head in, "Words of Wisdom". This is a chill hip hop track that samples Two Door Cinema Club's "Undercover Martyn" and whispers relax into your ears. Thanks for the track. Keep it coming.

Next, is another remix of Lil Wayne's "Stuntin' Like My Daddy". I have to admit I know very little about FAMUEL other than this artist has some other hip hop and indie remixes floating around. By now, most of you are tired of Lil Wayne remixes, but this one is awesome. Completely different tune. SHOW ME MY OPPONENT!

Lil Wayne - Stuntin' Like My Daddy (FAMUEL Remix)

The last song in this post is a Keljet remix of Temper Trap's "Love Lost". While the original is great, I obviously prefer everything electro. This song adds just enough without denaturing the original flavor of the song. The sick guitar solo remains.

BONUS: This week's chill pill...

Vampire Cocktails

For relaxing times, make it Santori time. The forces of the cosmos have me drinking substantial amounts of Japanese whisky and listening to Vampire Weekend. This week’s post highlights some of their more interesting collaborations, mash ups and remixes.

This first track is a mash-up of Vampire Weekend and Untz Society all star Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi is on top of his game and it is hard not to be impressed with his rhyming ability. This mash-up is a perfect blend melodic rapping and Vampire Weekend’s signature sound.

More Cudi Punks! This collaborative effort with Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmangilij is nothing short of epic. The song builds steadily and features an interesting mix of California garage rock guitar and church bells. Best Coast rounds out the equation with a trancy chorus.

Listen to the song, remember how great this summer has been and thank the stars if you can get out to the beach.

I posted a remix of this poolside jam featuring Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend at the very genesis of our blog, and when I could not figure out “links.” Warm Hearts of Africa is upbeat yet relaxing. Its rhythm is therapeutic and the chops Ezra displays are impressive. The music video steals the show completely.

All Blurred Out

Check these RAD new songs from Pittsburgh native Wise Blood. This dude knows how to capture euphoria in a three minute sound bite perfectly. These blown-out, handclappy, sample based tracks are like Christmas come early.

"B.I.G E.G.O" - Wise Blood

"STRT SRNS" -Wise Blood

We’ve been fans of Active Child’s laid back sound for a while now. Classixx just served up this remix of “When Your Love is Safe,” that sounds like it came straight off an early 90s soft rock station…in a GREAT way. Bump this on your yacht in a white blazer.

"When Your Love Is Safe (Classixx Remix)" - Active Child

This last track isn’t exactly new (it’s ancient in blog years) but the hypnotic beat and syrup dripping vocals of SALEM’s “Trapdoor” demand listening. Turn on, tune out

ADRIENNE

STATE: MARYLAND
FUN FACT: STRICT VEGETARIAN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MARYLAND CRABS

Check out these three poppy remixes to get you halfway to the weekend. Ronson & Russ Chimes fucking bang alright... through your speakers and into your ears. The next tune is a follow up to last week's Gigamesh jam. If you dug that, then get this. The last tune is one I saw on dailybeatz, which is awesome blog straight from Detroit. Strange bluezy russian band remixed into pop gold.

Tonight, I want you to go out, have some drinks and make some mistakes. Don't do it for me. Do it for yourself. You owe to yourself. You won't do it.

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl - Bang Bang Bang (Russ Chimes Remix)
Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me (Gigamesh Remix Final Version)
Zoot Woman - More than Ever (Upstation remix)

Building blocks

Lego Man By Artist Nathan Sawaya

All the songs posted below are different in style, but kick off slow and get swinging after a few moments in. There are some familiar names and some new ones, and I think these will make a fine addition to your music Rolodex.

The Remix Artist Collective (RAC) is a cohort of artists from across the globe (and yeah Portland, Oregon!). They occupy an interesting niche in the music world. The group works directly with record labels to produce remixes of songs they find appealing. Their mixes include much of the electronic you have come to expect from the Untz Society, and some other classic soul and funk methods. The song below is a remix for one of my favorite artists… The Tokyo Police Club.

While you are at it - check out some RAC mixes from Smasher: RAC

It is rare that I hear a new band that can pull off a sound style like The Cure. Comparisons aside, Mirrors certainly has mastered their own voice. They call themselves an electronic soul band, and their prior individual histories in pop music translate into very catchy songs.

Mirrors - Into the Heart - Link Removed by Request

Artist Bruno 9Li from Brazil -very cool looking.

This next song is a departure from the world of synthesizers and electronic. Kula Shaker is 1990s UK rock group who disbanded and then reformed in 2004. They have come back from the dead to produce the song Ophelia. It mixes a Led Zeppelin style flute with a free ranging guitar and has been stuck in my head for 18 hours now.

Bonus

Smasher posted the original cut of the song Bulletproof by La Roux (Bulletproof) and she has recently come out with an acoustic version…. So slick!
