JAAAMMMUARY

Here's a tasty sampling of some gnarly tracks that I have been rocking to in my favorite music month: Jaaammmuary. So feast your ear pussies off and remember, you should wait until everyone has been served before you feed.

This first track makes you feel like you're living in a 1973 pornographic film, that is, if said adult film featured robots, flying cars and neon lights. Upon listening, if you find yourself suddenly in golden underwear, holding an oversized brandy snifter of Courvoisier, Lazersaurus Rex waves all liability.

I know that their album came out much earlier this year, but I have really been on a huge Florence + The Machine kick this month. Let Florence Welch's rich and powerful voice wash over you, in an awesome wave. These two are off album tracks which I hope you dig as much as I do.

Traditionally, in ancient Mayan folklore, the month of Jaaammmuary was spent by the tribesmen expanding their minds through epic journeys, hallucinogens, and tasty, heady tracks. This shit brings the funk.

Gucci Mane makes me want to give up my top siders for a pair of these and a set of these. This track is my favorite off of his new Mixtape.

FM Attack is nasty. Also, second sickest name of an act in the indietronica world, next to Miami Horror. This remix will get you groovin'.

A bit slower, but listen to this jam once and you'll be humming its mesmerizing hook for days.

This song is old, but I feel as though I would be doing you a disservice by not posting it. If you have heard it, then you know what I'm talking about, if not, get on the mothafucka!

This jam is dirty. The driving, 80's style synth drum throughout will make ya head nod. Hold onto your nuts at 3:30 into the track.

P.S. Fuck Filden. Switched over to Mediafire for file sharing, apologies for the audible.

Stay Safe on Boats!

Penguin Prison and Theophilus London remix of Starry Eyed!! What!! I can't wait for this album. (In entirely unrelated news, Ellie Goulding has become a central character in my dreams.)

If you need something new to crush on the dancefloor:

I really like this nyc band:

Here is a smattering glo-fi/chillwave crap i like:

Word up to these guys from Boston!

Following the example of our own Smashie Smash, I feel the need to post another track from the White Panda:

BRING BACK THE WHALE!

I went to The New Deal concert on Saturday night with a few people including fellow untz society bro Jack Pitney. It was a fucking blast to say the least. Very loud livetronica replete with tons wookie high school kids and drugged out hippies tripping face. Sweet. We've been listening to The New Deal since their 2003 release of Gone, Gone, Gone. It's awesome that we finally had a chance to see this bad ass progressive breakbeat house trio. The live drums and bass give them a truly unique sound.

Here's a little taste of the show. I've included a video from the first set that builds up into pure chaos. People explode about 1min 58s in and then it stops at abruptly 2min 06s in. I had to rage obviously.

Videos and recorded songs really don't do this band justice. You need to see them live.

BONUS:

Dr. Hollywood - We Run LA (I had to post the original it's so fucking good. Get it on itunes)

The New Deal - VL Tone (Check out their recently released live album)

The White Panda - Intergalactic Spell (Beastie Boys vs Alphabeat)

Sunday Funday - Instructions and Soundtrack

It is sometime between 12 and 2pm. I peak at my phone and crack a smile. It is Sunday Funday. We start at Les Halles, Anthony Bourdain’s place and this spicy vixen of a waitress brings us our Breakfast martinis with a smile. I could explain, but I’ll leave it to Bourdain.

We leave after a few breakfast martini’s and head downtown for cigars. Lazersaurus Rex is feeling strong and starts doing his famous belly button dance to this song which I cannot stop listening to.

Lindstrom and Christabelle - Baby Can't Stop (Indjut Boys Remix)

We have arrived at the Velvet Cigar lounge – the only BYO cigar place to exist since World War II. And look whom we see! Mr. Smooth has flown in from LA and it feels like a mash up of east coast and west coast rappers set to hard rock. It seems the Black Keys have been mixing it up with some rap artists. The whole album is very good, and not like some cheesy rap rock collaboration.

It goes something like this

BlacRoc - What you do to me

BlacRoc - Done Did It

BlacRoc - Stay off the Fucking Flowers

We listen to this slick jam and head home.

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance the Way I feel

I lay in bed, room spinning, with a Sunday Smile.

Coyote

coyote |ˈkīˌōt; kīˈōtē|
A wolflike wild dog native to North America. Also called brush wolf or prairie wolf . • Canis latrans, family Canidae. ORIGIN mid 18th cent.: from Mexican Spanish, from Nahuatl coyotl.

This song is so good. She wanted sex on the beach...

Ya Boy ft. Dr. Hollywood - We Run L.A.

This a dope edit of this song. I prefer it to the original

Mille - Crysteena (Fear of Tigers Remix)

This is an interesting song that I felt like posting.

Donnie Sloan - Call You Up!

Some good new buffetlibre. More on the clubby side but still good.

Timbaland ft. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again (Chew Fu Deja Chew Fix)

I think this is a good followup to Def Starr's remix of Fences. Very chill tunes.

Get Stellar - The Moment (Def Starr Remix)

Good mashup. Some of the other White Panda stuff is pretty good also. However, I am very tired of Kesha. Get money.

The White Panda - Throw Some Tik On That Tok (Ke$ha vs Rich Boy)

I thought I was all Ellie Goulding'd out but I guess not. This Russ Chimes cut is pretty fresh.

Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (Russ Chimes Remix)

I know you other untz bros bust my chops about treasure fingers, but I think he's pretty good. Not the best of his songs but worth a listen.

Groove Armada - I Won't Kneel (Treasure Fingers Remix)

This song is fratty. I don't think I've heard a song I liked from Nas since middle school.

Damian Marley & Nas - As We Enter

HANDS UP

Checked the Yes Giantess blog this morning and this little gem was up there. Their remix of "Party In The USA" by America's new sweetheart Miley Cyrus rules pretty hard. In true Giantess fashion the waves of poppy synths sweep behind Miley's disney tween croon. Latenight anyone?

The Places You Could Be

Seriously ready for this weekend to be here. Here's a quick mix of tracks to get you ready for it:

Just got this song today and already I can't get it out of my head. A high energy, choppy, pulsing electro jam from Chilean producer Barretso; "Midnight Walk" is like a drive down a neon highway at midnight.

This next one is all kinds of crazy. The first single from Discobelle Records is Dada Life's remix of "French Jeans" by MVSEVM. On first listen all I can say is wow. Definitely a throwback to those heavy electro days. This shit seriously bumps.

To go in a slightly different direction, here's a disco classic from Jackpot. This song has enough string stabs and handclaps to keep you dancing through the weekend.

Last but certainly not least is a little bit of punk magic from Worcester, MA's own Golden Girls. With the mantra "we're not lo-fi, we're just broke" Golden Girls storm your earphones with enough energy to kill a medium sized animal. Listen to this one now. And then again. And Again.

Don't Stop The Rock

Hopefully this video will help anyone feeling a midweek slump.
Shit is HOT.

Windy City

Love Concept first came onto the radar last winter with their track "Windy City Television" which sounded like something that was made in a bathroom with a cassette recorder somewhere between 1987 and 1993. They just released "Quarter Century Boy," a new track; as well as a re-edit of 'Time Enough For Love," an older track. The new song is mediocre and sounds overproduced but the re-edit of "Time Enough for Love" sounds like the bastard child of dreamwave and house and it DEFINITELY will be finding it's way into your earphones. Check it below along with "Windy City Television" as a throwback.

Year of The Tiger

So it's currently the dead of winter and here in New England the snow is starting to become depressing. True there have been a lot of "summery" bands floating around lately, nostalgic beach day magic coming out of the speakers sounding all lo-fi and beautiful. Hi Tiger does the whole experimental thing but doesn't go for the glo-fi aesthetic, these songs are at once dreamy, tropical, happy, electro, and blissed out. Hi Tiger is a side project Brooklyn electro kids Neon Coyote. They take a different path with Hi Tiger but it as all worth it, their EP "Year of the Tiger" seems to draw from every genre imaginable and the final project is is ready for both chilled out days and neon nights. Here are a few standout tracks from the EP

Options

After being berated for months by both Sprog and Lazor, I decided I should finally stop being a lazy doucher and post

Got Nuffin- Spoon

Their new cd is nowhere near as accessible as the amazing "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" but man do I dig it. This song is especially great. I really love the lyrics, especially the changes Britt Daniel makes to the last line of each chorus.

Jealous of Roses- Bibio

Lover's Carvings- Bibio

Bibio makes laid back, vintage grooves that make you feel like you are stoned, riding a bike in the late afternoon on a sunny spring day. That may sound ridiculous but listen to these two songs and try and tell me I'm wrong.

Saddest Summer- The Drums

I saw The Drums last week at the Bowery Ballroom and it was dank to say the least. Especially when Peggy Wang (the hot hipster Asian from Pains of Being Pure at Heart) came up on stage and joined them for "Don't Be a Jerk, Johnny." However, "Saddest Summer" is my favorite track from their EP. While the band borrows from the Smiths and various other new wave/post-punk groups they are able to construct a sound that is their own. Also the lead singer has kick ass dance moves on stage.

O.N.E- Yeasayer

This song is from Yeasayer's upcoming album "Odd Blood." The album is terrific, as the band doesnt indluge their heady, jam band tendencies as much as they did on "All Hour Cymbals." Its hard to say what my favorite song is from the album because it changes weekly, but for now get lost in the tropical daze of "O.N.E."

We Have Love- Hot Chip

I've heard the majority of Hot Chip's new album and its fantastic, this is definitely one of the more dancier tracks on it. The combination of the chopped up vocals, throbbing beat, and deep synths add up to a fucking jam, can't wait to listen to this in the basement of the Hall but lord knows some douche bag junior is going to change it right at the good part.

Meet Me in the City- The Babies

Tweir gave me this one, but since he hasn't put it up here yet I don't mind ripping him off. The Babies are the result of a few members from Vivian Girls and Woods joining forces, and they definitely still have that lo-fi sound, but this song is way catchier than anything either of those bands has ever put out. Cha chi cha chi cha!

Little Secrets (Felix Da Housecat Remix) - Passion Pit

So this is sort of old, and I'm sure it has already been posted up here, but I never listen to Passion Pit remixes because i think they tend to blow, however this one has proved me wrong. Man oh man what a dirlay dirlay ditty.

Bam!

This song makes me want to throw on a few gold chains, grab my AK and hop in the Daytona for a little 'Unloading-the-3am-Shipment' montage down at the boondocks.

The classy type.

This one pops at about a minute forty in

More:

Polyamorous Affair: New York City, White Hot Magic

This song by Nipsey Hu$$le is jolly, jolly good.

Thanks Lee! These guys kick ass.

I love futurecop and Theophilus London so this song makes it easy to listen to both at once

I pat myself on the back every time I get Lady Gaga stuck in my head. I'm told this song is overplayed on the radio, so here is a different take on Bad Romance

If you haven't seen it. Chromeo know EXACTLY what they are doing.

Chicago Girlz

I have been really into The XX recently. My fellow contributor, Smasher, calls it wrist slitting music, but I happen to think that the young British duo/trio are masters of the outspoken and the ethereal. However, because this blog specializes in the UNTZ, I will give you three remix tracks by The XX that will get you rockin.

This first track is one of the most fun I have heard in a long time. It combines the spiritual sound of The XX with an hysterical flow that depicts the intricacies of those lovely young lasses from the Windy City.

This song provides some Them Jeans beat behind the beautiful voice of Romy Madley Croft (vocalist and lead guitarist). Not a serious latenight jam, but listen for the offbeat cowbell towards the end of the track. It's definitely a keeper.

This final jam from The XX is a tasty one. This track really brings the funky UNTZ off of which the Lazersaurus feeds.

Moving on to a song that I really can't say much about except...DISCO DISCO DISCO!

A driving beat, a building intensity, and a chick who's singing something I can't understand. Fuck yes.

Monarchy is really becoming huge in the blog/indie/hipster circle. Their song "Gold in the Fire" was first introduced by none other than Neon Gold and while I really liked the original version, this remix by Diamond Cut is one of the tracks that will keep me UNTZING all throughout 2010. So poppy and synth driven, it almost has an '80s quality to it.

This next track is for those of you (Blowen) who were into that nerdy science song that I posted back in late November. This is installment two. Very similar idea, but also an extremely cool and beautiful track.

Finally, I also wanted to throw a couple more tracks by Sleigh Bells at ya. I played these two jams for some friends recently and they received high praise. This band has insane amounts of potential. They combine hip-hop-like beats with soft and quirky female vocals. Can't wait till they blow up so I can say I told you so!

I hope everyone had happy and healthy Holidazzzzeee. Off to Passion Pit tomorrow at the House of Blues in Boston with my homegirl Jill (thanks for the ticket!) Happy 2010!
