Gimme That Beat

It's wine season. The fall parties are just about to start bumping with Halloween, various homecomings and other boozy adventures so it's time for some music with a little oomph behind it. Get your dancin' shoes, girl, cause we gonna boogie. Oh, and this week will feature a drink pairing for each song, so please stock your bar.

In Italy, locals tend to start off with an Appertivo, a light, yet boozy cocktail to allow one's hunger for food, love, life and more booze to grow with ease. Start your night off with a Spritz and this tasty track from Maximum Balloon featuring the sultry yet punch-you-in-the-face vocals of Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Spritz

2 oz. Prosecco
1.5 oz. Aperol
Splash of soda water

In a rocks or wine glass, over ice, pour the Prosecco, followed by the club soda and finally the Aperol. Garnish with an orange slice.

Next, it's time for the donkey punch. That one thing that will kick you in your ass and rocket your night into oblivion. The drink is the Sbagliato and the song is this powerful, raw and hardcore song from Kanye West and Bon Iver (yes, that Bon Iver, from Wisconsin...not to mention a very intense sample of Gil Scott Heron's Comment #1). These should get your blood pumping.

Sbagliato (also known as the Boulevardier)

1.5 oz. Bourbon
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Sweet vermouth

Mix all three ingredients over ice in a rocks glass, garnish with an orange slice, and melt. This delight was introduced to me by my buddy Josh Rich who spent some time living in Bologna, where this drink is very popular. Sweet, bitter and boozy, these are dangerous.

Now the party has started and its time to get those ladies dancing. If said ladies happen to be adorning pearl earrings, Lily Pulitzer dresses and drinking PG Rocks, then they will most likely love this song. Sampling the WASP-Indie group, Tennis, G-Eazy spits some hilarious lyrics describing a relationship with a little preppy hunny.

PG Rocks

Pinot Grigio
Ice

Fill a highball tumbler to the brim with ice. Then top with Pinot Grigio. It's not a drink, it's a lifestyle.

Now that everyone is well lubricated, a slow jam is in order. Groove your body to this sexy cover of Dirty Projectors' "Stillness is the Move", performed by Solange, the younger sister of Beyonce Knowles. Kick back and warm up to this jam with a with a fall favorite of mine that I like to call Apple Crisp.

Apple Crisp

3 oz. Bourbon
1.5 oz. Apple Cider
Ground Nutmeg
Cinnamon Stick

Pour bourbon and cider in a low ball glass full of ice. Stir with a cinnamon stick and grind fresh nutmeg on top. Fall in a glass.

A classic always brings the house down in the wee hours of the morning. This song has been one of my favorites ever since I first heard when I was 11. It is infectious and people can't resist singing every word. Throw back a classic beverage to match and you're feelin' fine.
