Lazersaurus is back after a long summer (and indian summer) of just crushing life out in the sunshine. Fueled by my new portable Bose iPod dock (seriously amazing, a must own for the music/nature lover), the summer was filled with wonderfully inebriated young Americans dancing to serious beats in the great outdoors. Daytime disco parties are a delight, and I hope that we all continue this trend as autumn sets in. Here are a few tracks to ignite your next daytime dance party.

You need to start your party with a funky punch. Kick your hangover with a Californian (vodka, fresh OJ, fresh grapefruit juice, lime wedge) and this absolute banger of a track. I dare you to not dance when listening to this. Immediate mood enhancer.

DOM is one of my favorite groups out there right now. I had the privilege of seeing and briefly meeting the band and the man behind the band, who's name is actually Dom, this past spring. They are high energy, angsty teens from Worcester, MA as their upbeat sound juxtaposes Dom's rough upbringing. This remix is a soul scorcher. Big booming voices and a steady beat tear at your eardrums in the best way. Dom's voice is ethereal and almost effeminate, but it works perfectly.

As the day continues to pulse and the cocktails keep pouring, people crave for music that they know at least at some level. I found this suuuppppeerrr sexy remix of Daft Punk's track "Something About Us". Also, the remixing artist may have the best artist name I've ever heard in a while: Jellynut. If you are not taking your shirt or somebody else's shirt off at this point, you've probably got it all wrong.

That's right kids, pack your bags its time to head to Belgium. 'Boom' is where the epic Tommorrowland 2011 Music Festival will be held from July 22 - 24. This rager's been running since 2005 and promises to be one sick party with a lineup featuring everything from Armin Van Buuren & Deadmau5 to Felix Dahousecat and Martin Solveig.

The festival is only eight days away and most weekend and VIP packages are sold out. The good news is that the day tickets are only about 62 Euros and Boom is easily accessible by bus and train from Antwerp or Mechelen. No Dice? Maybe next year then. Check out this video recapping 2010:

I'd like to thank Chuck Costello, the manager of Glasnost for sending this over. I tried to post the "Midnight Conspiracy End of An Era Remix" a couple months ago and blogger rocked me with a DMCA takedown. BAAMM!! Thank god he did, because the original version is phenomenal. Glasnost released this jam under Robot Dance Records in March. Truly an addictive groove supplemented by great vocals highlight this track. The official remixes are great too... keep a look out for their new album "Decade", which is due to drop in early July.

I know I haven't posted in forever. Sorry for that guys... job, life, winter you know how it is. The good news is that show season is here and I'm excited for some great new music this spring and summer.

I had to check this song from Death Electro out solely for the artist and title. While Mustard Pimp is highly regarded and relatively well known in the electronic world, I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Jimmy Urine. “Money Shot” opens with the following lyrics. “I’m drinkin’ alone at home and savin’ all my money. I’m jackin’ off tonight so I don’t need you honey… That’s the money shot.” Overall the song is one aggressive piece of electro. It’s catchy enough and the lyrics are so outlandish that I give it a decent rating.

A little more on the mellow side, this jam from Beni opens up something like Groove Armada’s “Paper Romance” with that low persistent baseline. Then it evolves into a much more complex tune with some simple lyrics looped over it.

This song found on Vacay Vitamins is very upbeat, fast paced, and great for a dance floor. The interesting part about this song is that it is essentially six minutes of buildup that never really drops.

While I do like the Klaxons, I wasn’t thrilled with the release of their new big single “Echoes”. It took a little Steve Aoki retooling to get me into this jam. Completely different from the original and somewhat strange in the beginning of the song, the new variation of the chorus gets you into this remix.

This has been a weird start to spring. The weather, the imminent threats and unrest around the world, that enormous moon...shit, in the same week, New England has seen everything from beaming sunshine and 70 degrees to hail, sleet and snow. As many of my posts are inspired by the tone of the season, the music here is inspired by weirdness, in one way or another.

NewVillager might be one of the weirdest/most intriguing groups that I know. They have only released three songs up to this point and their music is inspired their own mythology which is based upon a ten-part cycle exploring transformation, adolescence, and the formation of new ideas. I know. Weird. I was a huge fan of their previous 2-song release, Rich Doors/Ghengis On. This is their third release and it is fantastic.

James Blake is gaining some serious ground as a popular, weird-ass musician. His music is a mix between dub from 2080 and noises from the Matrix. Say what you will but, it just somehow works. Here, Lucid Rhythms inserts a nice beat backbone and turns this great, yet weird track into a head-nodder.

This song is only weird in the sense that it took Fleet Foxes four goddamn years to release a new album. I love this song, this band, and all their weirdness. Listen for the Simon and Garfunkel influence.

This track crushes it beyond belief. Zero 7 adds a heavy dose of 70s glam t0 Mos Def's smooth lyrics. Mos Def is at his best here, and I apologize that I could not find a link for you all. Regardless, this song is worth a listen over and over. Don't be surprised if this is stuck in your head all week.

I am a little short on music today, so I thought I would kick in some of my favorite work from UK Street Artist Banksy. Banksy is known for his smart commentary through stencil like grafitti. He has recently been working around LA and I think you'll enjoy some of his work.

Many write him off as a vandal, but others consider him the Andy Warhol of our time.

Meghongolian signing in from our nation's capital. I live, work, and high five in Washington, DC and am psyched to be contributing my first post. I prefer a nice bourbon and intend to reincarnate as a cross between Florence Welch and Robyn. The rest you can figure out as we go along.

As ice continues to dominate DC, I can't seem to get enough of these songs with ethereal voices. First up, an unbelievably catchy track with beats courtesy of Dr. Dre.

Jay Electronica is hip hop at its best for me. His new album is smart, washed over with soul, and features interesting political sound bites that are less about an agenda and more about the art of speech.

Jay Electronica recently signed with Roc Nation and Jay Z’s touch is undeniable…lightning always strikes for that man. Electronica’s music feels fresh, but remains firmly in the tradition of a Tribe Called Quest or Jurassic 5.

Shiny Suit Theory features The Dream, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jay Z. Put them all together and you get a kick ass song!

Spotlight Oh Land

The artist Oh Land has an arguably sweeter real name – Nanna Fabricius. Going by Oh Land makes sense; however, and based on the reviews of her performance at SXSW she incorporates wild performance art and elaborate stage props into her act.

Nanna is a former ballerina from Copenhagen whose career was suddenly halted by a back injury - something rather normal in comparison to Black Swan. To console herself and find a new path in life she turned to music, which was always a great influence on her (her mother is an opera singer).

Her EP Fauna is a collection of quirky beats from a drum machine and soft and clean vocals. That talent and her stunning beauty landed her with Sony. Oh land’s next album is due for release in March. She works at a pace similar to Lil Wayne and creates 100s of songs for each album, and then whittles it down to 10 or so.

I think her electro pop vibe has got some legs under it, and she’ll do quite well in the music scene. If that doesn’t pan out she was just signed to model for Missoni… so there is always that.

This winter has been relentless in the Northeast. The ridiculous amount of snow combined with blistering cold has forced the best of us to hide out in our own worlds, dreaming of sunshine and warm weather. Alas, this is no way to live winter. So let's get out there, experience the world and revolt against Old Man Winter. Unfortunately, there is plenty of winter left, so here are some great jams to get you off your ass. It is very bold to try to remix such layered music as Gorillaz, but Miami Horror is a bold act. This 7:19 long track is epic and features everything you love about both artists.

I posted a slick Gucci Mane remix a few weeks ago done by this kid Brenton Duvall. From everything I have read about this guy, he's definitely latching onto the Sam Adams/whiteboy rap producer bandwagon. However, Duvall crushes these mashup/remixes and makes great party music out of heavy hip hop.

I love Lykke Li. Her voice is amazingly sexy, but sometimes her jams are a little too mellow for the party crowd. This remix has a very cool mix of tribal drum beats and big band horns to create a very unique, yet satisfying track.

This song shares a similar sound to the last jam in its tribal drums and ethereal vocals. Very unique, yet familiar at the same time. One of my favorite songs right now.

Tanlines - Real Life (Memory Tapes Remix)

I have never heard of either the original artist or remix artist here, but that is sometimes amazing. In this case, the seriously heavy 80s vibe makes this a sexy party winner. Make sure to pay attention at 1:15.

We have posted Sebastien Tellier a fair amount in this blog, but I think he deserves a spotlight. Maybe it is because he is my favorite artist at the moment, but his jams are just so painfully slick they deserve proper respect.

He has been hitting a cord with me lately as I try to shake off the winter blues. His music melds electrofunk with the subtle sexiness found in the best American R & B (not as in KC & Jo Jo, or maybe exactly as in KC & Jo Jo).

His instrumentals are complex, but cohesive. There is such a pleasant melody behind each of his tracks that it makes it hard not to bob your head in appreciation. With 10 years of music under his belt I think he is hitting his stride with a unique French sound and personal aesthetic style. Comparisons are tough, but it is not a stretch to call him a contemporary Serge Gainsbourg.

Artist Spotlight: TWIN SHADOW

After reading a killer Pitchfork review, I recently picked up Forget, the debut album from Twin Shadow. Twin Shadow is the brain-child of George Lewis, Jr., a 26-year old Dominican-born, Florida-raised, Brooklyn-residing musician who's checkered past has propelled him into becoming a wildly dynamic musician who created his debut album alone, in hotel rooms. After growing up on a man-made island in Venice, FL having very little exposure to popular culture, Lewis devoured any music at any chance he could get, from Boyz II Men to Nirvana. This has resulted in a unique, yet familiar sound delivered on Forget. The album is multi-layered and filled with reverb, yet it somehow achieves a distinctly 80's New Wave sound. Lewis sings in a haunting, yet everchanging tone which provides perfect backing for his drowned out beats. I am addicted to this album and I would highly suggest purchasing it on iTunes or another purveyor of fine music. For now, check out a couple remix tracks.

The first track is a remix of Twin Shadow's epic jam, "Castles In The Snow". Com Truise crushes this spaced out remix with some serious synth tones over the powerful bassline of the original track.

We see Twin Shadow's versatility and creativity in this remix of Surfer Blood's anthem "Floating Vibes" with a seriously awesome homage to The Police in the guitar riff. You will hear it immediately. This song is a bit slower but is a real gem for the utter music nerd who likes to hear multiple levels of production.

The only way that I can really describe how this song sounds is: playing nintendo in the hot Caribbean sun. The dreamwave lyrics mesh perfectly with the steel drums and 8-bit. Just listen and you'll understand. Totally awesome song, just the wrong season for it.

I caught this track by Panda People from 'Wearepajamas.blogspot.com' who brands this electropop group as a German counterpart to Passion Pit. Now I'm not sure if I would go that far but check out this Ride The Universe Remix and see for yourself.

LA Based Margo is a complete original. It is hard to compare her to anyone in the present day save Prince. Her style is very radical and she rocks what I’ll call a “Sexy Disco Hipster vibe”.

She uses this keen sense of style to produce engaging videos and theatrical performances. Margo has all the spunk of Cyndy Lauper, but with an aggressive edge. She blends European techno beats with guitar riffs. Her punky lyrics fit in perfect with such a sound.

L.A. based Margo gives me yet another reason to road trip it out west.

Here are two very rad songs. Walking in L.A. drives hard like a Pat Bennatar track and “Cold as Ice” is very funky.

Terry Richardson's work for the Pirelli spring calendar in 2010. Terry has certainly pushed the envelope in photography, and received much acclaim for his work for American Apparel. Here is one of the more PG shots from the Italian tire companies calendar. Viva la Italia.

I have a great deal of respect for The Roots. They have maintained relevancy for more than a few decades, and they can put on just as good of a rock show as they do hip hop. I have seen them twice in concert, and have been blown away each time.

Recently the Roots teamed up with ex McKinsey consultant (fact of the day) John Legend. Legend's soulful voice combined with The Roots' upbeat tempos provides for a very engaging body of work.

Here is a cover one the most acclaimed bands of the year Arcade Fire. Listen to it the whole way through for the instrumental ending.

Title says it all. This past Thanksgiving weekend was one of the best yet. Not only did my family and I whip up a food network worthy feast (see fried turkey above), but I got to spend the holiday with Master of the Untziverse, Mr. Smooth, and our 50 or so other best friends in our favorite place in the world. These tracks were a huge part of our evening successes and failures, so please listen carefully.

Finally. Awesome new Cut Copy. There was a wonderful moment at about 3:45 am on Wednesday night when Mr. Smooth was standing next to the radio from which this song was playing. Sobriety in question, he swayed and proclaimed with amazement, "This is fuckin' great." When I told him it was Cut Copy, he looked at me as if joy washed over him, in an awesome wave.

I love Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and this remix totally cuts any of their weirdness (for better or for worse) and makes it an anthem. This song may have been the biggest hit of the weekend. I owe full credit on this one to a person that means a lot to me. For now, we'll call her T. I am a huge Gucci Mane fan and Brenton Duvall just stomps this remix, turning it to an instant latenight classic. You feel as though you've heard it 1,000 times on your first listen, but in the best way possible. Same deal here with fileden, so you'll have to download through mediafire. Kanye's new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy had a huge impact on the weekend. I thought the Whitest Boy alive was on their on in the realm of electro funk, but the group Failed Novelist has ventured into their territory with a few choice singles. Their sound has a glossy 70s feel that fits well for those after hours parties where you lose all the cares in the world.

Pay close attention to their subtle use of synthesizers and clean guitar riffs.

Beirut Steps Out

As the weather cuts to a chill, I have been delving into the Santa Fe based group Beirut. Their signature sound has sort of traditional eastern European flair to it. They showcase big horns and produce some indie polka typed jams.

They released a double EP in 2009, which is a large departure from their original style. The EP is inspired by lead singer Zach Condon’s trips to Oaxaca, Mexico and various parts of Europe.

The second EP of the two named Holland is an experiment with electro pop. The tracks feature dreamy synthesizers, horns, and David Byrne like lyrics.

It is so different from their typical sound; I thought I would share two of the better licks.

Sampling the WASP-Indie group, Tennis, G-Eazy spits some hilarious lyrics describing a relationship with a little preppy hunny.

I had the fortune to check out a very slick music venue in Brooklyn last night. Fireproof in Bushwick plays host to a range of up and coming artists from all walks of creativity. They have an outdoor space for performances and an indoor spot for art displays and more intimate shows. I was able to catch up with my friends from Red Wire Black Wire as they finished up their CMJ power tour of half a dozen shows in New York over the span of a few days.

While I was jamming out with them I got to see several new bands including Neighbors. They have a huge group and covered one of my favorite Talking Heads songs. They are definitively a big party while on stage, and I certainly appreciated this very much. They are worth a listen and I thought I would kick you to their myspace page to check it out.

After hitting it pretty hard, I needed some slick tunes to mellow out with. Vetiver is an American group who has a laid back and quirky style. Their music seems strongly influenced by Elvis Costello. Take a listen and I am sure you will be pleased! Check out the Neighbors remix for a good time.

A lovely photo of Daisy Lowe from Paradis magazine. In other news these three songs are just so fresh and so clean I thought I would toss them into a post together. Aeroplane is hitting it hard with strong remixes. This version of Gypsy and the Cat's song "The Piper's" is both energetic and poppy. Gypsy and The Cat are a London based duo who originally started kicking out indie rock songs in Australia. The two are coming out with an album in early 2011 and released "The Piper's" as a teaser. There will be more of them to come.

Blackbird Blackbird is in the heart of the trance wave. There is certainly a heavy dose of psychedelic electro in their music and I am starting to get into them. This song Hawaii has a lot going on with it, but it all seems to fit together nicely.

Bedouin Soundclash followed up their 2007 album Street Gospel Light with this year’s The Horizon. This jam has n advancing percussion beat similar to a typical Tanlines song. The song I rounded out with vocals by Coeur De Pirate and the result is one of the slickest songs I have heard in the recent past.

I went and saw Wavves the other night at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Period. New Sentence. I missed the two opening acts which I almost regret in hindsight as the first opener, consisting of members of Woods and Vivian Girls- The Babies- rock that grungy drunk vibe hard in the excellent "Meet Me In The City." Regret is a bitch. Fuck it. Wavves ruled.

Wavves broke a few years back with their fuzzed out masterpiece, and lover's ode to being drunk stoned and broke-"No Hope Kids." In the midst of riding that first wave of buzz lead singer and project brainchild, Nathan Williams, had a public, drug related meltdown onstage. Nice. Moving on. In a fuck you to the critics, musicians, and fans that wrote him off as a spoiled bitch, Williams released the manically amazing "King of the Beach." Williams kept the early 90's punk scuzz and honest lyrics from his past album but cleaned it up a little by throwing richer electronic textures and beautiful doo-wop harmonies into the mix. Joined onstage by Jay Reatard's old backing band, Williams threw a raucous shit show the other night.

It was apparent how much Wavves love weed when before the first song the band had already launched into an explanation about a mystical land named Funktopia and passed a joint around onstage. I don't remember a lot after that because I ingested a few more beers and jameson and decided to stop being such a pussy and join the mosh pit. I do remember loving "King of the Beach" and being pissed that they didn't play "Baby Say Goodbye." The crowd was a great mix of hipsters and 18 year old skater punks, and it made for a glorious, energetic mosh that was just people pushing and hitting each other blindly with shit eating grins. This wasn't some Disturbed/Drowning Pool concert with a ton of shaved, neo-nazi Oxy addicts looking for blood, it was just stupid aggressive fun. I am bruised. I am better for it. I pushed some girls, girls if you are reading this, I'm not sorry. Because you pushed me back. Something tells me that my 6th grade self - the one that swore by Rancid, Op Ivy, and the Punk-O-Rama mix cds- would give a fucking sweet high five if he saw me in action. Anyways. Wavves ruled. The album has guest vocals from some very famous fellow New Yorkers, including- David Byrne, Karen O, Theophilus London, Little Dragon, and Tunde and Kip from TV on the Radio. Every year there are a handful of albums that blow me away. I fell hard for the Black Keys and Phoenix a few years back, and Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork has always been one of my favorites. A few days ago Chromeo released their new album Business Casual and it is rapidly growing on me.

Business Casual, like their others, has an 80s funk style reminiscent of Cameo, Zap and Roger, and some Prince. The album ventures into 80s pop more so than prior works, but also gains musical complexity. It has a light freshness similar to Hall and Oats or Billy Ocean.

The song “I Could Be Wrong” is Chromeo at their best. Dave 1 and P-Thugg teamed with Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend to make this masterpiece. It is one of funkiest and smoothest jams I have heard, and I put it on par with “Do it Roger” by Zap and Roger.

What really takes this song to the next level is the ripping saxophone solos. This song is the most potent way to start an instant dance party… anywhere (Apartments, Bodegas, Buses wherever).

ArchAndroid chronicles the myriad journeys of an android and samples styles ranging from classical to big band jazz, folk and hip hop.

I was sitting next to singer and guitar player Jack Penate (who beat me to 25 by about 10 months) when the clock struck 12 to usher in my 25th birthday. After a round from the others of “has your quarter life crisis set in yet”, Jack set a great tone for my 25th year. His outlook on 25 is the same as mine. 25, as he told me, is the time to get settled in, put away the negative and insignificant things in your life, and make your mark on the world. Not a bad thought from the rocker.

I had the fortune to be invited to sort of house warming party at Vampire Weekend key board player Rostam Bantmanjli’s place last night – Rad because I just posted his collaboration with Kid Cudi (All Summer). Rostam invited over a group of his friends from Julliard. We kicked around a few beers as they sight read classical music and tried out string quartet versions of indie pop songs. It was one of the cooler things I have been to in a while.

Ahh, the dog days of summer. They have taken their toll on me in a myriad of ways. Between working like a mule, traveling through the Rust Belt, and partying like a there’s no tomorrow, I am a little embarrassed to say that this post comes as my first in over a month. What I have lacked in quantity, however, will be picked up in the quality of this music right here.

I want to take my 10 million candle power striper fishing light and shine it right on Javelin, a raucous duo of from Brooklyn via Providence, RI (in my opinion, the most underrated city in the northeast). I saw them perform a rocking live show a few nights ago at Great Scott in Allston where they tinkered away at their mash of effects machines and synthesizers. If you are into funky, carefully mixed, big beat, party music, then this band is for you. Here are a couple tracks just so you can sample their deliciousness, but I would highly suggest you to pick up their fantastic new album No Mas and if you are in New York this weekend, go see them perform at the Soho Grand Hotel this Saturday.

It's been a low-key weekend as I prep for the last hard burn of summer. To help the Untz faithful in a similar state, I have a selected tracks that can help you slide into a mellow, but upbeat groove.

Bassnectar from Frisco (San Francisco) typically lay down heavy beats glossed over with a variety of electronic techniques. This song has a sort of dreamlike quality to it. The list of styles this group pulls from is endless.

We have posted Ellie Goulding a few times before, and I suggest you check out this track from Mr. Smooth. (More Ellie Goulding). This remix is of one of my favorites. It has some giddy up and features some interesting electronic additions. Ellie Goulding is currently on tour in the UK, and I am dieing to see her live if she comes stateside.

This is my favorite jam of the post. Tegan and Sarah are identical twins from Calgary, Canada (A very stellar place according to a lovely art dealer couple I met at the Russian Vodka Bar). They have been kicking out tracks since the 90s, and have not lost any of their electro pop relevancy. This remix by Toro y Moi is just about as good as it gets.

The first track in the set list is another RAC remix of Bloc Party frontman Kele's "Everything You Wanted". Great vocals highlight this track, however, RAC's signature synthesizer transforms this melodramatic tune into something much lighter. I definitely prefer this to the original. Check out the punks jump up and falke versions too.

This track was a last minute submission from Hoodie Allen and produced by RJF that was just too good not to post. Hoodie hits the nail right on the head in, "Words of Wisdom". For relaxing times, make it Santori time. The forces of the cosmos have me drinking substantial amounts of Japanese whisky and listening to Vampire Weekend. This week’s post highlights some of their more interesting collaborations, mash ups and remixes.

This first track is a mash-up of Vampire Weekend and Untz Society all star Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi is on top of his game and it is hard not to be impressed with his rhyming ability. This mash-up is a perfect blend melodic rapping and Vampire Weekend’s signature sound.

More Cudi Punks! This collaborative effort with Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmangilij is nothing short of epic. The song builds steadily and features an interesting mix of California garage rock guitar and church bells. Best Coast rounds out the equation with a trancy chorus.

All the songs posted below are different in style, but kick off slow and get swinging after a few moments in. There are some familiar names and some new ones, and I think these will make a fine addition to your music Rolodex.

The Remix Artist Collective (RAC) is a cohort of artists from across the globe (and yeah Portland, Oregon!). They occupy an interesting niche in the music world. The group works directly with record labels to produce remixes of songs they find appealing. Their mixes include much of the electronic you have come to expect from the Untz Society, and some other classic soul and funk methods. The song below is a remix for one of my favorite artists… The Tokyo Police Club.

It is rare that I hear a new band that can pull off a sound style like The Cure. Comparisons aside, Mirrors certainly has mastered their own voice. They call themselves an electronic soul band, and their prior individual histories in pop music translate into very catchy songs.

This next song is a departure from the world of synthesizers and electronic. Kula Shaker is 1990s UK rock group who disbanded and then reformed in 2004. They have come back from the dead to produce the song Ophelia. It mixes a Led Zeppelin style flute with a free ranging guitar and has been stuck in my head for 18 hours now.

The Knocks have been making big moves recently. They’ve already dropped two standout singles this summer. “Blackout” and “Something I Can Dance To” were strictly dancefloor material, but this latest effort is pure summery pop. With jangly guitars, whistling, and a driving beat this one may just be the soundtrack to your summer.

Their previous single “Something I Can Dance To” cannot be overlooked though, this is a straight ahead dancefloor burner. Sampling Alphabeat’s “DJ” the knocks create a track full of glittering synths, epic builds and latenight perfection.

Last weekend, Pitney and I were lucky enough to catch Delorean, Tanlines, and Glasser at the Bowery Ballroom. The show was pure euphoria, Tanlines and Delorean absolutely tore shit up and the club was packed. Here’s “Real Love” a track from Delorean’s Subiza album that dropped this past spring. Incorporating elements of old school house, sunshine pop, a healthy dose of beach day bliss this is a must listen.

Restless People is another music project from the guys in Tanlines. This song “Days of Our Lives” dropped last summer but it still feels fresh and danceable. The beat has a tropical feel that is perfect for summer, you'll want to keep this one in rotation.

This week's post features a few electro songs that are influenced by World Music at some level or another. World Music was brought to the stage of American pop music by none other than Paul Simon in his collaboration with Lady Smith Black Mambazo back in the 1980s. These next couple songs will give you a taste of how World Music is making its way into the world of indie electro.

ceo is the solo project of Eric Berglund, of The Tough Alliance. In this amazing jungle electro track, he pays homage to the Peruvian pan flute, which he blends perfectly with the track's thick beat and poppy hook.

This is tropical techno. If I could listen to this track at a Tiki night club on the beach for the rest of my life, I'd be a happy man. It samples the old Jamaican traditional, "Day-O", but it is the electro beat gives this jam the fire that we all love.

DAMB - DAYLIGHT

I know I posted a Local Natives cover last week, but this song has such an eclectic blend of Russian house and Brazilian instrumentation, that I felt it needed to go on this post. It's rocking Euro beat is undeniable, but it is the mixture of clave and agogo in this track make its world quality truly fantastic.

As of this week summer is officially here. The sun has been shining, cool breezes are blowing, the beach is in full effect and the summertime jams just don’t stop coming. Lazersaurus Rex posted a track from Teen Daze a few weeks back truly captures that indescribable feeling of early summer. Here’s another track called “Saviour,” a breathy, billowing track that fades and breaks like waves.

The song "I need a dollar" by Aloe blacc is quickly becoming woven into our pop culture conscious. When I first heard the song I assumed he was a soul singer from the 60s...but I was very wrong. Aloe Blacc started his career in 1995 and has worked with John Legend. His hit track gained mass appeal as the intro to the TV show “How to Make it in America.” Given its popularity there have been remixes to this soulful jam, but few caught my attention until I heard one by the Killabits. The DJ pair from Toronto was able to amp up Aloe Blacc’s original while maintaining its roots.

Kid Cudi’s The Pursuit of Happiness has been a wild success. There is something so easily recognizable and poignant about it’s lyrics. There have certainly been more than enough covers and remixes of this song, but then I heard a cover by the singer Lissie. She seems to make it new again. Lissie vocals remind me of a young Stevie Nix, but in life she is a pure individual. This cover it is nothing short of epic.

Funk Track for the Week

This track by Velella Velella kicks it back to the old school with a sound that is reminiscent of George Clinton. Velella Velella is from Seattle, and stays true to the funk tradition of having a decent sized band with a lot going on.

Teen Daze is quite the little mystery. I have read that they are from Vancouver and that's about all is really out there about them. They produce some very heady dreamwave beats that will melt you. They are coming out with an album pretty soon, but until then, check out these two jams.

Along those same lines is this awesome track from Untz favorite, Washed Out. It features Caroline Polachek from Chairlift in the second half of the song, where she comes in with an incredibly sexy spoken word/rap verse that works perfectly in this wonderful track.

This song samples the phenomenal "Dance Yrslf Clean" from LCD Soundsystem's new album. The track is given a twist as Kid Cudi, Chip Tha Ripper and Christian Bale (albeit unintentionally) all lend a hand in making this song one of the potential anthems of the summer.

You want to hate Hoodie Allen, the U-Penn, whiteboy, hip-hop duo, but they are legit. This song samples Marina & the Diamonds and the flow has the cadence of a mix between Chiddy Bang and a little bit of Project Pat (one of my favorite all time rappers). Check it out, you'll probably dig it, too.

Shabazz Palaces is run by a guy named Palaceers Lazaro, but has several other members. Lazaro, however, is not letting anybody know who those people are. Not even a picture of the group is out there, and thus the mystery behind this Seattle-based avant-rap group makes them even more intriguing. I hope you enjoy this amazingly long-named track of theirs.

A Nostalgic Video and Old Sounding Standards Made New

Kicking off the theme of this post (Nostalgia with an update) this song by Theophilus London is nearly as good as the original. Marvin Gaye first released "I want you" in 1976 as a progressive soul track. London has taken its essentials, sped them up, and added his own unique style of rhyming on top. It is a great listen.

This song begins with an English translation of a French standard, but quickly kicks into a hash out of hip hop and pop beats. Jamie T is a 24-year-old artist from South London. He has a flare for experimentation and a sound, which could draw comparisons to Elvis Costello. Most of his songs are on the lighter side, but this song is up-tempo and will inevitably get stuck in your head.

I think you will enjoy this mash up. 99 problems is one of my favorite songs by Jay Z. It's an aggressive hit that is almost more rock and roll than hip hop. But if you peel back the guitar riffs and thumping base, the lyrics are quite smooth. The next half of the mash up is The Dap Kings. They have been on the block for 15 years and they helped revive funk and soul in the 1990s beats. When combined with Jay Z the result is a killer.

Mark Ronson continues to reinvent himself as a music icon and artist. His early days of hip hop and Motown infused production caught on terrifically. He was able to create terrific pop collaborations with the likes of Amy Winehouse. He is in full stride once again. This time he has moved into heavier electronic beats with a stronger dose of synthesizer. I posted one such track last week called Bang Bang Bang and this week I thought (and for the nostalgia of it) I would post this new video of his. It is a tribute to the video game Zelda.

Tweezy here with some summery jams for your all of your Memorial Day weekend shindigs. Every summer needs a soundtrack and these jams are perfect. First up is an easygoing little ditty from Australia's Hot Spa. The track is called "Kiola Beach" and if you didn't want to go soak up rays before listening to it, you definitely will afterwards.

Best Coast's songs always seem to capture the essence of a summer evening. This new track "Our Deal" is no different. Washed in reverb and jangly surf guitars, this track is a perfect soundtrack to your early summer evenings watching the surf roll in.

Next up is a track that I rediscovered just this week. It had been sitting in my iTunes library just begging to be listening to, and I'm glad I did because this one is a straight ahead rocker. Unfortunately the band that made the track broke up a few months ago, but Teen Sheikhs still storms your eardrums like the bastard child of the Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols and Ramones with the cool lo-fi aesthetic that is so perfect for a song called "Germs"

To finish things up here's an breezy little surf-rock jam from UK's Dignan Porch. I know nothing about this band, but this song is so infectious i haven't been able to stop humming the melody all day. Listen to this one on the beach.

So last night I saw the first fireflies of the season in Milton, MA. They were bright and serene, reminding me of those perfect spring/summer nights where nature and music are all you need. Here are some tracks which will provide a great soundtrack for your firefly filled evenings, whether by sea or by lake.

This song has a wonderful mix of drive and after glow. Not made for the boogie, but can still be rocked out to. A great jam to kick start your evening with some grilling and cocktails.

This seemed to lend its name nicely to the theme, however, it is the spacey, reverb-y sound that makes this track a real winner. Similar idea as the last one.

As the night moves on and those cocktails* continue to be poured, sit back and let the starlit sky envelope you and your compadres. Play this track when you do that.

Boats and Birds - Gregory and the Hawk (Protohype Remix)

Let this song do what it wants to do. It wants to surprise you and build to levels you wouldn't expect. Great for barefoot dancing.

The synthesized hook here is about as addictive as pistachios, which are a great snack for any outdoor adventure!

2-3 Shots (depending how strong you like) Mt. Gay Rum, Vodka, OR Gin.

Juice of Half a Lemon

8 Fresh Mint Leaves

1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

1 egg WHITE (not yolk, I made a typo) (optional)

Club soda

Give the mint leaves a rough chop and put them in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup, bitters and lemon juice. Muddle all four ingredients in the bottom of the shaker until you can smell a rich bouquet of mint. Fill shaker with ice and add the hard alcohol. If you like, you can add a raw egg white (this will create a nice, thick foamy "head" on the drink after shaking). Shake all ingredients vigorously and pour into a highball glass with the ice from the shaker and also some new ice. Fill with club soda and garnish with a lemon wedge and a sprig of mint.

I made a great discovery this weekend. Some diners serve beers in water glasses at 5 am. Victory.

In that vein, and in the general pursuit of happiness, this post is dedicated to late night roaming in the eternal city of New York.

This first track has a slick 70s feel to it. It is a great tune to have blaring in your head as you power stride down the street. Westbam hails from Germany and his inspiration comes from the band Afrika Bambaataa. The song builds for a minute before it really gets grooving.

My favorite part of rumbling downtown is finding bars that play music I have never heard, but quickly love. There seems to be a growing trend of Spanish singers mixing their basics with 60s rock. The whole idea seems random, but it works well and can provide for some excellent late night dance offs (mostly between Smasher and Lazersaurus).

Our boys Sagan and Hawking sing about Life and the Universe

Outstanding Japanese band Capsule released yet another killer album 'Player' back in march. The whole album is excellent but the stand out track is Stay With Me. I also dug up a great mashup of their song 'Starry Sky' with the Beastie Boys and Daft Punk. If you haven't heard this duo yet I recommend immersing yourself.

Memorial Day is just a few weeks away, and although the weather here in Boston has been up and down, my friends and I definitely have that feeling that summer is right around the corner. Here are some rocking tracks that will catapult you into a amazing Summer 2010.

We all love the Yeah Yeah Yeah's but their aggressive sound can sometimes be a downer in the sunshine. Them Jeans gives this jam an acoustic guitar and a thick beat. It will undoubtedly be a favorite in your summer crowd.

Pallers are an interesting act. Down-tempo electro from Sweden sounds like a winner...and it is. Let this song melt you in the ocean breeze.

I hope you checked out Sunday and Monday with my colleagues, The Master & The Mister. They highlighted some great new songs that I know you will enjoy. Take some time... read and listen. Chilly & 50 interesting combo indeed. The hype for Scissor Sisters is really starting to gear up. With the Gorillaz rocking plastic beach in the same spring it feels like a flashback of five years ago. Awesome.

However, we don't care about five years ago. We care about right now. And what I have right now is a collection of ten (10) Smasher-style house influenced remixes to get you through the mid week. I originally started with a list of 50 and then narrowed that down. This week it was difficult to pull away just 10. With some great Ellie Goulding remixes out there and new Chemical Brothers released it was a busy week in the blogosphere. There are only a couple of curve balls in here.

Two weeks ago I posted "You Want it, I Want it" from the Ontario based duo 'The Girls Can Hear Us' and knew that I had to follow these guys and listen to more. Their music plays, trust me. I love the simplicity. TGCHU is catchy without being cheap and bangs in a car or on a dance floor.

As we all know, Fred Falke's music really needs no description. Along with the previously posted 'Florrie' tracks, here are two new songs infecting everything they touch. The first is Grammy winner Robyn's "Dancing On My Own", which has been played all over the place. Falke gives this song that little extra umpff. Next, here's the remix of Sia's "Clap Your Hands". This post is dedicated mothers like Betty Draper. The following songs are a nice set of hip hop mash ups and piano mixes.

My post today highlights two great artists. One being 50 Cent, and the other being Chilly Gonzales. Both certainly have different styles, but when blended with other artists the results are spectacular.

Chilly Gonzales is Canadian? Yes, it's true, but he lives in London now and when he teams up with others his sound is so fresh and so clean. It helps of course to mix in a little 50 Cent.

We are well into spring and the weather has been killer in Manahattan. This past weekend was perfect for heading to central park packed with Scotch and a Bocce Ball set. So grab your solo cups, get outside and play some of these fresh tunes as you run around New York like Tom Hanks in Big.

This first song by K-OS is one of those rare tunes that I can play on loop over and over again to my neighbor's dismay. It is a hip hop cover of the theme to the OC, which makes it undeniably pop. Give it a listen.

Our blog posts a lot of work by Breakbot, but I think they are the best remix artists on the scene today. This is a Breakbot Remix of the Delicious Vinyl All Stars. It is an instrumental piece with a steady beat and a solid early 90s R & B style. It is more on the low key side, but great none the less.

COACHELLA 2010: DAY 1

Two weeks ago Young Tweezy aka Tweir and I ventured out to the desert of California for Coachella. I went to Bonnaroo in 2005 and it completely ruined me in the best way possible -(I mean I still have no idea what the fuck my parents were thinking when they let their 17 year old son go to the ultimate wookie-thon, but god bless them for it)- however, I had no idea how much fun was in store for me out in Indio. Tweir and I decided we would camp as it was the cheaper option- huge mistake. The campgrounds are very close to the venue and filled with all sorts of nice people and illicit substances but being woken up at 6:30 a.m. every morning by the blistering heat and a pounding headache really blows, so if you ever go- rent an rv, house, or get a hotel room.

Luckily, I didnt have to spend the whole weekend with JUST tweir (kidding, sort of) and we we're joined by a bevy of fiesty babes from the graduating class of 07'. The first real set we saw at Coachella was untz-favorite Sleigh Bells. Tweir and I put a show together with them at the Mill in the beginning of the month and got to hang out with them for a little bit- they really are awesome people, so awesome that they saw us in the crowd and gave us a shout out. Here is the clip, fast forward to the last 10 seconds to see the shout out. This is their new song, "Tell 'Em," from their debut LP TREATS which is out May 11- it's loud as fuck so be prepared.

After Sleigh Bells we moved over to the next tent and met up with regular untz head - michwa aka mitch aka michelle wade and her friends for Yeasayer. I loved their first LP but I don't think Odd Blood is that great, I mean half of it is amazing but the other half leaves me cold. Regardless of my thoughts on their album, Yeasayer totally blew me away live, the crowd singalong that ensued during "Ambling Alp" will forever be etched in my memory. After Yeasayer, we went and checked out She & Him, where I rapturously fawned over Zooey Deschanel and boogied to their great cover of "Roll Over Beethoven." After that we drank a few beers and listened to ska godfathers The Specials while the sun set over the mountains.

Following that we went to Passion Pit who were by far the biggest dissapointment of the festival. I've seen them thrice now and as much as it pains me to say this, they really need to work on their live show. I don't know if it was the size of the venue, the outdoor setting, or the sound mix, but lead singer Michael Angelakos sounded like shit. We bounced out of thier quickly and headed down to Pretty Lights, where we did some of the hardest dancing of the weekend. They're playing Terminal 5 on June 4th and if you are in the New York area you should be there, otherwise you are just fucking stupid.

After that we went and caught part of Grizzly Bear and La Roux's sets, before making it over to the main stage for LCD Soundsystem. I could probably write three paragraphs alone about their set but in the interest of time I will keep it short. I saw them open up for Arcade Fire in 2007 and once again LCD completely blew me away. Just like their sound, they manage to strike the perfect note in between rock show and dance party. New tracks "Drunk Girls," "Pow Pow," and "I Can Change" absolutely slayed, while old jam "Yeah" absolutely killed at the end of the set. "All My Friends" was of course the best song of the set, and ignited a twenty thousand people strong catharsis. I wish I could go back. Their new album is killer, these are the two best songs on the album in my opinion - Dance Yrself Clean and Home- although the Eno-esque "All I Want" comes in a close third.

After that we wandered around catching a few songs at Vampire Weekend, Jay-Z, Public Image LTD., Fever Ray, and Whitest Boy Alive. I have to say Fever Ray live was one of the most strange and beautiful things I have ever seen, I wish I could describe it but I'm still not even sure what happened except that there was a dude who looked like Jafar and a bunch of lamps. Fever Ray is the side project of Karen Dreijer Andersson, the lead singer of The Knife, and the band has the same icy electro sound- but if I were to describe Fever Ray I'd say its like a Genesis album walked into a gothic swedish horror film. Also, Whitest Boy Alive were one of the biggest suprises of the festival- even though we only saw three songs I consider myself a member of the converted.

Spring Weekend Redux

Last weekend, a few brave souls of yesteryear heroically entered the inferno and attempted to weather the storm that is Trinity College Spring Weekend. In the heat of this battle, some fall, some prevail. We, Gentlemen, prevailed!

The weekend kicked off with a rocking performance by Tweezy and Fadil on the Cave Patio. Their hands were like lightning rods designed for creating thick, swelling beats. They played for three hours with the highlight being a riproaring song which featured the music from The Lion King. I was unsuccessful in finding that track, but in my search I found this gem.

After Tweezy and Fadil finished their set, the one and only Treasure Fingers got on stage and crushed it for a few more hours. He later came to Latenight at the Hall and we hung out for a little bit. I found out his name is Ashley and that's all I can remember. This is one of his newer songs and it is pure disco funk.

Latenight was just as I remembered it: sweaty, preppy people trying to keep up with the Lazersaurus on the dance floor. I was moving like a jaguar in the middle of a storm of funky electro. It was clear that Breakbot's music needed to be in the Hall basement and finally people are catching on. This jam is a few years old, but it has the staying power to be a latenight anthem for generations.

The rest of the weekend was kind of a blurry mix of Croakies, people that were born in the 1990s, and shame. I've needed to do some serious detoxing since then and this track, which Tweezy posted a few weeks ago, has been Advil for my ears.

Changing gears a little bit, I wanted to throw this new Chiddy Bang hotness your way. It's got a great Hot Chip sample and a bangin' flow. Please let it pleasure your ears.

This song has a very strange but enjoyable vibe. Big beat, hand drums, synth, keyboard and a solid breakdown at 2:40. It's a chill yet bouncy song.

Overall the trip back to college was a resounding success for all, except Nader, who broke his hand, and Bickford, who cracked his noggin doing a swan dive from the bar. Standard.

This song simply rocks the shit. I really got into RAC after hearing the Penguin Prisons "Worse it Gets" remix. Their beats are simple yet just edgy enough and they manage to produce great remixes without degrading the original character of the song. You'll like this one.

So, I met Treasure Fingers after he tore up the show on Friday. Mr. Smooth and I have been pumping his jams on the untz since day one. This guy is a straight up genius, not to mention a really nice guy. I suggest you get into it. This is just one of the many jams.

Alas it is a gray evening on the East Coast, but it does not mean you can't rock out. I have picked out three fresh jams to help you get at it.

This first song is simply magic. It is by the mix artist Siriusmo and it's beat is steady and infectious. Lazersaurus has posted some of his remixes before and I thought this jam deserved a highlight. The song blends great synth tones with a measured beat. It is perfect for cruising or simply getting reading to go out.

This jam comes from a wild son of a gun named Unicorn Kid. There have been a lot of cats (especially in Brooklyn) experimenting with old school video game components for song production. This song in particular caught my ear.

Giving It All Away

Some of your favorite Untz bloggers had the privilege of catching BRAHMS last weekend. For the uninitiated, this is Cale Parks’ latest brooding synthpop project. I just picked up their remix of Neon Indian’s classic “Psychic Chasms,” and it certainly is a jam. This version has more of a grooving beat and some great choppy vocals that are a step up from the original.

A while back, Lazersaurus Rex posted an awesomely trippy, spaced out jam from Active Child called “Body Heat (So Far Away).” I’ve been listening to the song ever since and have gotten pretty into Active Child. Their slow motion synthy beats with reverb dripping dubbed out handclaps and beautiful falsetto vocals are pure escapism. Here’s a song by them called “When Your Love is Safe,” that’s perfect for the end of a long night out on the floor.

Active Child also served up this remix of Wolf Gang’s latest single “Back to Back” that takes the original to a whole new level. More of the same booming beats with Wolf Gangs vocals fitting perfectly.

Over the winter we posted a demo from Worcester punkers Golden Girls. They recently released their ULTIMATE FREEDOM EP, and although it’s a little more produced sounding it still retains the raw energy of their early songs. “Newports” is a straight ahead rocker to get you through the week.

To finish things up, here’s a great little ditty from lo-fi surf popsters Best Coast. I’ve always been down with their sunny 60s sound filtered through a haze of overdrive and reverb. “Wish He Was You” is a bittersweet love song with a twist that comes out in the first line. Beach day bliss sold separately.
