Stay Close

Sorry to all our readers for the silence, Tweezy has been soaking up the sun on vacation this past week. But back to the music: OH SHIT. NEW DELOREAN?! Yes you heard correctly, Delorean just released the first single from their upcoming full-length album. After bringing the heat with their Ayrton Senna EP, Delorean have been quiet for awhile. Well the wait is over. “Stay Close” is all we have to come to love from them and more. Based around a house-y synth line and with echoing vocals interwoven behind the eclectic beat this song has me unbelievably pumped up for the album. Download now.

 “Stay Close” – Delorean

This one is sick. Some serious thugged out/blissed out dirty south meets glo-fi magic. “Geeked Out” by Cop Magnet has the fuzzy, tape hiss feel that we have come to love but with a booming gangster banger of a beat behind it. You’ll want to listen to this one over and over guaranteed.

 “Geeked Out” – Cop Magnet

Next up is one of the best pieces of breathy electro-pop that has come my way in a long time. “Burn Bridges” by DOM is an expansive, billowing track that centers around an awesome synth riff over an upbeat 2-step. The song breaks and washes over you like a wave, coming very close to pop perfection. Listen to this on the beach with the sun in your eyes.

 “Burn Bridges” – DOM

Here’s a track that came my way last week and has been featuring heavily on my vacation playlist. “5 Rings” by Brooklyn trio Keepaway morphs and shifts as the track progresses; building into something amazing by the end.

 “5 Rings” - Keepaway

Just got this song from electro-pop trio Chew Lips. Hadn’t heard anything from them before but this is a simple, echoing, uplifting track with a dank female vocalist. I think all our readers will enjoy this one.

 “Slick” – Chew Lips

BIGHORN

Bighorn |ˈbigˌhôrn|- A stocky brown North American wild sheep, found esp. in the Rocky Mountains. Ovis canadensis, family Bovidae.

This song is the straight up fire. I have already listened to two remixes of this guy, but neither stand up to the original. I love it. Check out the video here.

Newislands - Out of Time

I think these guys are going to take off. Seldom do I even think about listening to a daft punk remix, but these guys nail it on the head basically sampling this electronic anthem, tweaking it, and then putting their own lyrics over it.

MoonRunners (vs Daft Punk) - Feels Like Magic

Sick jam posted today on 'Off the Radar Music'. I like it a lot. Very groovy.

The Glass - Four Four Letter

No indietronic here. Straight up R&B soul. Bill Withers is smiling somewhere. Listen to it.

Aloe Blacc - I Need a Dollar

I liked the original and feel that Diamond Cut is just tearing everything up right now. Saw this on electrorash.

Amy Meredith - Pornstar (Diamond Cut Radio Edit)

You Got It

Under rated king of cool Roy Orbison celebrates his birthday in style with the Beatles and friends.

The Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club has a solid back bone of hard blues, but veers toward indy rock with their casual lyricism. I am always looking for a new band to blow my hair back like the Black Keys once did, and BRMC has promise.

Yukon blonde sits somewhere between My Morning Jacket and The Fleet Foxes. Their music is very catchy and style is tight in form. The guys hail from Canada and have just put out a self titled album.

Death in Vegas became popular for their track "Girls" on the Lost in Translation soundtrack. They experiment with a lot of music types and can only be categorized as indie. This song titled Scorpio Rising has a good rock feel to it.

And now to my man! Roy Orbison is overwhelmingly known for his song Pretty Woman, but as an artist he experimented with middle eastern sounds in his song Sharadoba and was infinitely cool. He was one of the first to wear sunglasses whenever in public. This video is very entertaining. Note the hesitant crowd slowly getting into it.

And if that is too old school for you, I added this remix of another one of his songs "In Dreams". It is done up in a trance pop style.

PIRANHA

Piranha |pəˈränə|- A deep-bodied South American freshwater fish that typically lives in schools and has very sharp teeth that are used to tear flesh from prey. It has a reputation as a fearsome predator. ORIGIN mid 18th cent.: via Portuguese from Tupi pirá ‘fish’ + sainha ‘tooth.’

This song is a jam. Fred Falke has the Midas touch.

Florrie - Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix)

Everyone loves this song, including myself. I like this version. It's harsh and very fresh.

Dragonette - Pick Up the Phone (Mikrodat Remix)

This will get you through your work week. Also check out the Gemini Club version if you have a chance. It's up on syntheticrocks.

The Vanish - Hold On (Russ Chimes remix)

My best friend is visiting me in the BDL/860 and gave me a little inspiration for this week's post. DISCLAIMER: The views expressed here are not necessarily those of the members of the UNTZOLOGICAL SOCIETY. Some will love it and some will fucking hate it. But I don't give a fuck what you think, because I think it's funny. This is some monster music from a local STP, South Tampa, band for the uninitiated. Give it a listen and enjoy the humor.

Gwex (Global Warming Extravaganza) - John "Cong Crusher" McCain

Here's your mandatory White Panda mashup for the week. Hey, at least they're consistent.

The White Panda - Tipsy In The Sun (Weezer vs. J-Kwon)

BONUS -

Lazersaurus posted the new album version recently. I think this acoustic version is also awesome. Please support The Canon Logic and buy their album 'FM Arcade'.

Give Me Voluspa NOW

Seriously cannot wait for The Golden Filter to drop their full length album Voluspa in April, This shit needs to leak NOW. It's has been a long time coming and every song the NYC disco crew has put out since last winter has been absolute fire. Here’s a demo of “Moonlight Fantasy” which is set to feature on the album. This is a slow motion, burner with all of the driving synths and disco stabs that we’ve come to expect from these geniuses.

“Moonlight Fantasy (Demo)” – The Golden Filter

Really though there is no way to get enough of these guys, here’s their remix of “Please Don’t Touch” by Polly Scattergood, who sounds surprisingly like their regular vocalist…Download this now and listen to it when you’re dancing, blinded by smoke and lights in the fiendish hours of the night.

“Please Don’t Touch (The Golden Filter Pop Mix)” – Polly Scattergood

Next up is a new song from Jai Paul, “BTSTU” is equal parts heavy synth, delicate pop and dreamy vox. Seriously, does a song need more ingredients than that? The fragile falsetto echos behind the bedroom electro/hip-hop/downtempo beat perfectly. This may be Tweezy’s new favorite song.

“BTSTU” – Jai Paul

Here is a great track from disco-dub favorites The Emergency. This song sounds like it was beamed from space. Not quite dancefloor material, but definitely something that you want to keep in your rotation.

“The Fire In You” – The Emergency

Over the weekend we posted Mathemagic’s remix of “Big Love” by CFCF. It’s a fantastic track that all should download if you haven’t already. CFCF’s LP Continent is full of ambient disco faves, but his older remixes are as equally solid as newer tracks. Scope these two remixes by him, they are sure to please fans of disco, downtempp electro, dancing, weekends, etc. CFCF brings the funk on his mix of “Midas Touch” by Midnight Star.

“Midas Touch (CFCF Remix)” – Midnight Star

“Bathtub Clash (CFCF Remix)” – Femme

NBA Street Jams

I have been deeply thinking about the maginificence of pick up basketball and felt I needed a soundtrack.

Here are a couple of jams to help you get into a grove on the court

This is a sick funk jam to get you warmed up for the obligatory statue of liberty dunking you will be performing

JRawls The Liquid Crystal Project-TribTroy (TurntableJazz)

Mos def has to make an appearance on this list. In addition to kicking out fresh tracks with the Gorillaz - he has been back to his usual smooth as a menthol solo work

Mos Def - Auditorium

Once the game is over - there is nothing better than celebrating to radical cover songs of rock and electronic tunes. Hawa has a cool way of taking D.A.N.C.E by justice and making it sound like an old vinyl track

Hawa - D.A.N.C.E (Justice Cover)

The Golden Filter is a Untz favorite and they ripped a solid cover of The White Stripes

The Golden Filter - The Hardest Button to Button (White Stripes Cover)

Finally and completely off topic from all of the other tracks is this catchy tune from Francois Peglau, who produces complety indepedant tunes with heavy influences from the 60s. It has a cool motown ring to it.

Francois Peglau - One minute til Midnight (so sad)

Not Because You Saw It

First up is an amazing song with an old school feel. I've been rocking Boss In Drama's remix of "Just Do It" by Copacabana Club since last spring and it still feels fresh. A springtime anthem in the making this song just begs for play on sunny days.

We all Love CFCF, his ambient disco sound is a favorite over here at the Untz Soc. Mathemagic just served up this remix of old CFCF favorite "Big Love" and it goes above and beyond the original. This remix takes the straightforward disco jam and turns it into an echoing, dubbed out jam that reeks with reverb heavy handclaps and huge bass drums.

Here's a sunshine pop gem that got big play last summer. LVC turns a mediocre song by The Mae Shi into something that you just want to listen to on repeat with the sun shining in your eyes and an easy cocktail in your hand.

Like so totally chill dude

Here are some fresh dance gems to kick off the weekend:

There are a number of sweet remixes of this song out there by fabian and bit funk. Check out the Binary blog for more. I like this one best:

Oh Shit and Night Drugs - Everybody Needs (NIght Drugs re-edit)

Some other great dance tracks. I'd write more but I have to run to work.

Goldfrapp - Rocket (GRUM Remix)

Moulinex - Lover in Me

Computer Club and Frankmusik - Losing Streak

Avenue of Criminals

The Canon Logic is a band that a few members of The Untzological Society know very well. The lead singer, Tim Kiely, is a personal friend and a wonderful musician. Their music is pure Americana rock/pop and you can't help but smile when listening to their flagship track, Avenue of Criminals. This track was released with their new album, FM Arcade, last Friday. I must admit, being an insider, I've had the album for a few months now and it is truly phenomenal. It brings you to a place in your mind that feels eerily familiar, but at the same time, fresh and new.

Check out their whole album and please support The Canon Logic by purchasing their new album on iTunes. Click here.

This next tasty jam is classic, dreamy techno. It has a great acoustic quality with the featured grand piano, but through heavy synth and a stank funk bass line, it still maintains that disco love.

At the beginning, this song doesn't seem to have much promise. Almost too trance/house. However, as the refrain kicks in, a wonderful thing happens: Passion Pit makes sweet, sweet love to Marina, and then to the Diamonds. Some may like this song, some may not, but I think it's untztastic.

Let the soul of this next track seep down to your bones. This LA based band captures a wonderful classic sound that I haven't heard from a new band in a while.

I really dislike both Radiohead and Kanye West. However, as Xaphoon Jones, the brains behind the beats of Chiddy Bang, puts his badass hip-hop twist on them, the result is nothing but gold.

I've been digging this new track by The Gorillaz, but speaking of Chiddy Bang, the Philly duo took a good song and made a jam. ELECTRIC IS THE NIGHT!

Last, but certainly not least, I wanted to throw another Freelance Whales jam your way. Not only am I friends with one of the members, but I have seen these guys twice now and they have truly become one of my favorite bands in recent memory. Their music is sultry and powerful. Listen to this song, close your eyes, and immediately feel your inner self transported to that perfect place in your mind where no one can take away your feelings of pure joy.

Please purchase their album and go see them live. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky few to catch them in the New York City subway.

Rio's finest

I am really digging The Twelves. The duo is from Rio and is like Daft punk if they did not wear robot suits and were normal human beings who happened to be from South America.

Here is a little sampling of some remixes they have come up with. They seem to take regular tracks and spice them up with an electro - funk twist. They have a knack for tracking down very different songs and stamping them with their own feel. The best time to listen to these is most certainly a late night dance party.

This next group is a girl boy combo from New York. They have a more mellow sound, but it comes through in a cool way like Peter Bjorn and John

Staying in New York City, this band from Brooklyn teamed up with some members from Le Tigre and they put a lot of effort in putting on kick ass shows

No Monster Club has a cool old school sound

Enjoy the tunes you animals

That's Where We Belong

A few weeks back we posted Baby Monster's new single "She Comes Alive," it's been one of my favorite songs recently. Needless to say, the song has been begging for remixes and the wait is over. England's Jocks has put his slow motion disco touches on the song and added fantastic plucking synths and dreamy production that make the song much more than it was before.

Here's a song that came out a few weeks ago that has been getting heavy play recently. Sunglasses make catchy electro pop that seems to seamlessly combine genres into an easily danceable party starting brand of music that is all their own.

Last week I posted a song by Texas producer Bryce Isbell, who puts out music under the moniker FUR. Here's another song from him; a filtered, after-hours disco gem. This is a funky piece of post-latenight magic that sounds like french house on quaaludes. Definitely download this one.

To finish things off here's an old favorite remix classic. This track is ancient in blog years but is still worth a listen. Remember The Teenagers? Sort of a gimmick act, but they actually churned out some pretty solid remixes. Here's their take on "City" by Lo-Fi Ink. It's sounds like a lot of other Teenagers tracks but without the kitsch of their originals, add this one to your weekend rotation.

Tweezy Out.

Your Wish Is My Command

I know there's been a lot of Breakbot floating around this blog recently, but he's so damn good. His beats seem like they were the magic love child of these pictures of the Bee Gees and Jesus holding a firearm. This is just a lovely little remix done by Siriusmo, a supah cooool German guy. I think this is one of the sexiest songs on the block.

This song is gaining some steam in the blog world. It's a sultry blend of 1980s pop with 2010s glo-filicious bliss. Listen for that pulsing Rhodes keyboard throughout.

Miike Snow was undoubtedly one of my favorite new acts of 2009. This remix by Emalkay slows things down and dims the lights, while still maintaining that head-nodding-goodness that we love about Miike Snow.

This song is a few years old, and admittedly, I just heard it for the first time a few days ago. This shit is like Bob Dylan after going on a bender chock full crack, fondue and quaaludes.

Penguin Prison continues to deliver. This song has that funk that gives me the itch to be in a sweaty, wood-panelled, castle basement at around 5 am.

This track is dreamlike. It transports you to a world of untz bliss and while the dream eventually must come to an end, your day will be brighter because of it.

Ok, it's a problem. Can't. Get. Enough. Breakbot.

RHINOCEROS

Rhinoceros |rīˈnäs(ə)rəs| - A large, heavily built plant-eating mammal with one or two horns on the nose and thick folded skin, native to Africa and South Asia. All kinds have become endangered through hunting. • Family Rhinocerotidae: four genera and five species.
ORIGIN Middle English : via Latin from Greek rhinokerōs, from rhis, rhin- ‘nose’ + keras ‘horn.’

I posted a redial remix of Barretso last week and if you liked that then you'll probably like this. This is a loud jam for big speakers and a dance floor or speeding on a highway. Untzological meat and potatoes here.

Redial - Let Me Go (R3SET Remix)

This is the offbeat song of the week and strangely my favorite of the post. I really like this duo from Saratoga Springs. Screw Florence + The Machine. I still don't understand why everyone likes them so much. I think the vocals and lyrics here are way better, not to mention she's much sexier. I think the spacey guitar mixes nicely with the drum machine. Check it out.

Phantogram - Mouthful Of Diamonds

This is a nice little number. This is the feel good song of the post with upbeat keyboard and goofy bass-line. Happy is their deal. Checkout "XOXO". I think you'll see more of this group by the end of the summer.

Butterfly Bones - Ur Hott

Good vocals highlight this 80's revival track. Fans of this should also check out "Lover in the Dark".

Berndsen - In Sight

To agree with Mr. Smooth, I also like everything classixx. However, I like Treasure Fingers even more. There hasn't been a lot of stuff out there recently but you'll be sure to enjoy this one.

Classixx - I'll Get You (Treasure Fingers Remix)

I find little or no resemblance to the original. I like it it nonetheless. Pure untz.

Space Cowboy - Talking in your Sleep (Studio Brussels Remix)

This is my mashup for the week. I would usually hate all this pop smushed together, but for some reason I think it's catchy and it works. I won't lie, there is a lot going on here... some might say too much.

Jason Derulo Feat. Imogen Heap vs. Phoenix - Nineteen Oh What (Chambaland Mashup)

There's also a French-Soler version out there that is more suitable for the dance hall that you should check out. This remix strays less from the original and I think it may be easier for the unseasoned to transition into.

Marina And The Diamonds - Hollywood (Monarchy Gliese Remix)

No untz here. Indie jam with geetar strums and piano keys. Great song even if I don't like all the hippy down with capitalism nonsense in the intro.

The Radio Dept. - Heaven's on Fire

BONUS:

Ellie Goulding - Your Biggest Mistake
